One thing else to consider....

You drop the rifle and the scope is damaged or rings.

Can you get backup or replacements easily?

Basically, can whatever locale you go to, support your rifle you put together, spare parts, repairs, ammo, scope, rings etc.

Without destroying the trip or cutting it early.

Some rifles have specific style / size rings you must have.

Also, if you accidentally leave your rifle on the ground and back over it with your truck, resulting in a bent barrel and broken-off bolt handle, will you be able to go to the local grocery store or diner and get a new barrel spun up and bolt handle welded on? If the answer is "no", you have bought the wrong rifle.

That would be a new York strip and walleye dinner night along with a microbrew

What rifle meets these requirements?

Savage, Stevens, Remington.

Memory serves, cz and Ruger have specific non-standard rings

So you can walk into a gas station in the middle of North Dakota and fine Savage and Remington rifle parts? I really doubt it.

An for rings, how often have you seen a set of Ruger rings fail? Compared to an optic or a stuck case or anything that would be equally an issue for any rifle.

Two is one, and one is none applies to EVERYTHING that is mission essential.

It turns out that what you have is less important than what you do with it.

If your going on a once in a lifetime Siberian Safari to kill the only Sasquatch that has ever been seen, better make sure you have redundancy. I brought 3 rifles and plenty of ammo for all 3 out to Colorado to shoot an Elk. If its important to you, plan ahead.

I think many small town grocery stores and diners are missing out on the cottage industry represented by Catastrophic Rifle Destruction Repair and Machine Shop.

What rifle meets these requirements?

Remember the gun buyback? All you need is a 2x6, pipe, end cap and some pipe clamps. Easily repaired at any hardware store, lumber yard or Home Depot.

I buy what I like and take care of it. If bad stuff happens it's probably easier and more fun to add another firearm to the collection.

I agree with that 100%. I never trust that I am going to be able to pick something up that I need in the field.
