Something on the MN carry laws and how police are not following the rules according to radio stations this morning.

The drift I got from the teaser was that people who had been 'legitimately' denied a permit were doing an end run by appealing the denial, which they made sound like a bad thing... but then I wasn't listening too intently when I heard the ad on the radio.

What proof did they offer?

Is the system foolproof, no. But I know of a couple of people that the local jurisdiction had a hard on for them and they couldn't get a permit until they got a lawyer and the system worked like it was supposed to. We are very fortunate that the people that helped draft our permit laws in Minnesota knew what they were doing.

That's what I took from it

Since we don't trust judges to make the decisions but would rather just let the sheriff decide, let's do the same for criminal prosecution.

Just think of the money we would save with no trials.

So how many of these reversed appeals used their gun in a way they shouldn’t? Didn’t read or see the story.

That would have required real journalism to discover. Not included.

The permit database is not public. By making the appeal public record you make that person's holding of a permit public which is not right. Why is this so hard for them to understand?

MN's Permit law was brilliant. Even this part.

A government official has to show, beyond a reasonable doubt, that a person should be deprived of a civil right -- seems absolutely a reasonable step.
Nothing to see here. Continue swimming.

Agreed. We certainly weren't the first, but the guys working for us learned from other states and nailed it.

Some real reporting would have included what these sheriffs cost the taxpayers when the court ordered the reimbursement for legal expenses as provided for by the MPPA.

I know that letting the facts get in the way of an anti-gun story is problematic. However, I thought "the Lautenberg Amendment" banned Individuals convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence from owning a firearm. This "news" story says, "Gun owners in Minnesota denied permits to carry firearms in public because of a history of violent behavior – including domestic abuse" are then allowed, through this scary appeal process to get a permit to carry. How does that work?
