Reloading the 300 Blackout.

A place to discuss calibers, ammunition, and reloading

Reloading the 300 Blackout.

Postby Lil' Dog on Fri Dec 08, 2017 9:38 pm

I want to start reloading for the my 300 Blackout. I am interested in reloading super sonic so I am considering the 110 grain and the 125 grain from either Nosler or Hornady. I read as much as I could from the internet on preferences for what powder to try. I am thinking about H110. Before I go on, yes I have reloading manuals from both Nosler and Hornady and I am not using an internet recipe to reload from. From my experience with factory ammo my AR like the lighter grain bullets.
So does anyone have a personal favorite for a lighter grain bullet and a powder combination? I won't even ask what the secret recipe is. Just a recommendation on what bullet and powder you are using.
I would also like to know where people are buying bulk .30 caliber FMJ from. Either the bulk stuff is in high demand or I'm not looking hard enough. The lighter grain bullets I would try to tune for better accuracy. The bulk FMJ I would put together for range practice.

You've already got the right combo. Lighter bullets: Nosler 125, Barnes 110, Speer TNT 125, etc

And H110 is pretty much everyone's go to powder.
Nothing to see here. Continue swimming.

H-110 is what I use. Was doing fine with 110 grain bullets. When I started using 125 SST to try, won't chamber the next round. My 110's shoot around 2300 fps. Have both 16 inch barrel and 10 inch barrel 300BO. Ordered my suppressor so won't even try subs in the 10 inch until it gets close to getting my suppressor. guessing somewhere around may/june time frame. Had some issues with cut 5.56 brass so ordered 300BO brass. What's your setup?

Speer TNT or Hornady SST 125, was using H110, trying Lil'gun now...it runs at lower pressure and seems easier on the brass. For plinking the 147FMJ and IMR 4227 work well. Best deals locally=Gunstop in store- not online.

Id love to give my advice, but I'm still trying to figure out an accurate load for my 300BLK. I tried 3 different powders and I'm on my 3rd bullet now, but I still can't seem to get better than about 3" groups at 100 yards with mine.

So far the best combo I've had was with NBT 125 gr and H110 loaded long. I have some SST's loaded up and ready to test but im waiting on warmer weather.

I've used the 110 TTSX (the so called tac bullet) for hunting, and the 125 ballistic tip for other things(range, varmint, etc)

I've tried a number of powders for supersonics. So far it's not that picky there.

Subsonic getting the thing to cycle is a bit picky.

I have a Radical Firearms 16 inch HBAR upper. I was able to find some Nosler Ballistic Tip in 125 grain, and some Hornady SST in .125 grain. I have some Hornady 110 grain V Max on the way. I decided to try the H110. My old neighbor suggested trying W296. I have the RCBS small base 2 die set, and the Lee crimp die. Right now I have all once fired brass. I have a few thousand .223 cases that I planned on cutting sometime, at least some of them. Otherwise I everything I need to reload, but the time. SIGH.

H110 is pretty much the defacto supersonic powder.

Regarding bullets, what's your use? I peruse all the reloading sites like american reloading, rocky mountain reloading, sages, wideners, powder valley, everglades etc. The 147 grain military pull is a common find for cheap plinking ammo. Accura also makes a 120 grain bullet that works decent for plinking.

H110 = W296

They're the same powder.

I have not done much load development yet but I'm using H110. The Nosler Varmageddon 110gr are a decent inexpensive bullet that could possibly be used for both field and range. I have some but have not gotten to working up a load.

I've had good luck with Speer 125gr TNT bullets with Alliant Power Pro 300-MP. I have been able to get just under 1 MOA with the 125gr SMK's that were designed for 300 BLK.

Looks like a new powder for 300BO. Read this over at 300BO forum.

Looks interesting. No data for 30 carbine  I still have a good 7 lbs of H110 though so would be quite some time before I try it.

If your using cut brass from 5.56, buy 300BO brass. Nice day yesterday so hit the range. Bought new hornady brass couple months ago. Loaded some up. Wow, what a difference. Shot 110 V-Max. Nice tight groups minus me flinching on a few rounds. Going to load some Barnes 110 Tac next. Was about to give up on 300BO since I couldn't group for crapola. This changed my mind. Shot the new Hornady 190 sub yesterday to test out. Just wanted to see if they would cycle on my 10 inch. Work great. Now to zero these at 50 yards next trip to the range.
