Many thanks to Rob Doar for going on the TPT (Public TV) show Almanac and debating the gun issue with Erin Zamoff. Rob Doar was exceptionally polite. He had logic and facts on his side. Erin Zamoff rattled off a bunch of statistics "proving" universal background checks (UBC) and red flag-gun confiscation laws dramatically lower gun violence and claiming 90% of Minnesota folk support UBC.
Rob Doar mentioned some studies that debunk UBC and Erin Zamoff just out of hand dismissed them. Rob Doar remained calm and polite.
Erin Zamoff also went to the emotional (not rational) "just one life" argument too.
And I had a jaw dropping, "oh my gosh" moment when the hosts of Almanac, Cathy Wurzer had the temerity to bring up a comment made during the hearings at the capitol "that neither bill (UBC and red flag-gun confiscation) would get a single gun off the streets of North Minneapolis" and Eric Eskola mentioned the concealed carry debates and how the anti-gun folk had thrown their hands in the air with "the streets will run red" and "the return of the wild west" comments, (please note these are NOT exact quotes from Eric Eskola).
I'm used to Public Radio and Public TV having gun debates between a gun-control person who hates and despises guns verses a "gun-rights" person who believes flintlocks should be allowed for the general populace but nothing else. Note: the flintlock should be allowed ONLY AFTER UBC, hours of training and testing, registration and insurance and periodic spot checks to make sure the flintlock is locked away properly in the home and the flints are locked away somewhere else. Sheesh!
You can listen to the March 8, 2019 Almanac episode here---the gun part of the show is at about the 16 minute mark.
