With metal prices being down considerably from where they were last spring, I don't know how ammo producers can justify continuing this inflated market.

I have noticed a slight decrease overall, but nowhere where we were only two years ago, when Ammoman.com would deliver 1000 rounds of Federal red box .45 ACP for $180.

Back then the increased cost was due (mostly) to high materials costs. Now the increased cost is due to demand. The more people blab about how Obama is going to do this or the liberals are going to do that, the higher the demand for (and cost of) everything gun-related will be.

But, the problem according to Federal insider's is that the distributors are not buying....Anoka has lot's of ammo in their warehouse......funny how it is hard to find small rifle and match primers?

It kills me to say this but this is why I want the "coronation" to just happen already. We can quit all the speculation on everything from guns to the economy and finally get on with it and deal with.

In a free market there are two things that determine pricing, supply and demand.

When metals were going up, supply was affected. Manufacturers were unwilling to sell for less than the cost to produce. This meant they were unwilling to supply at the previous lower price. Some buyers were willing to pay the increased cost, but not all. This kept production at a low level as demand was suppressed because of the higher cost.

As metal prices have shrunk, prices haven't. This is because demand has increased despite the cost. Demand has increased because of the financial and political climate. Manufacturers are selling more and more product at the still high cost. As a matter of fact some stores are having difficulty keeping a supply on hand.

Now in a free market this would correct itself as the high prices and lower costs mean more profits. Manufacturers will increase production to capture a larger share of the profits and new competition will enter the market.

However, this market is anything but free. Entering this market is frought with danger as the U.S. government may make being in this business very difficult in the near future. Of course, they may not.

It is hard to know where prices will go from here. Although if I was a betting man, I would bet that in five years you would love to pay today's prices.

I was told, by a guy who has many weapons, several of which are full autoand many thousands of rounds of ammo buried, that all you really need is enough ammo to kill someone else who has ammo.
