New ignition set in a 10mm Kimber

Spent a couple of hours on a small project this week and thought I would share it with the forum. Being that we don’t get as much gun related content lately, with election and all...

I got this Kimber Campguard in 10mm a couple of years back and it has a nicely fit slide to frame and the barrel locks up nice and tight. Two things could have used some improvements - sights and trigger.

This week I took care of the trigger creep by installing a new matched ignition set from Harrison with true radius sear, along with a Colt sear spring. Also took the opportunity to install a flat trigger from 10-8. Took about two hours, as I adjusted the trigger and thumb safety and grip safety to all work together.

Sights will be next, when I pick out a new set. Got the sight pusher a couple of days ago.

Looks like you really know your way around the 1911!

I have been shooting them since around 1983. My first was a 70 Series Gold Cup National Match as my center fire and .45 ACP competition gun. It has a reduced strength recoil spring in it because I was shooting 195 grain SWC's with only 3.5 grains of Bullseye. Very low recoil.

I've got a pre-CZ Dan Wesson and this 3 inch Kimber. I like them both. The Kimber functions fairly well despite a bad reputation associated with short barreled 1911's



Your work seems purposeful and I'm betting the end result with the Kimber will be a very nice shooting firearm.

I bought my first 1911 the night Obama was getting elected, so have only been shooting them for 12 years. I am not brave enough to try any cosmetic changes like fitting a new beaver tail, but these matched sets from Harrison fit an in-spec gun very well with some minor fitting required around them.

I have read some stories about the little Kimbers over the years but everyone I know who owns one is happy with them.

I am a big fan of Dan Wessons! Top is 9mm, than 38S, than three .45s.

This Kimber came to me with barrel ramp edges sharp as razors and a very sharp ramp to chamber transition that caused 3-point jams on flat nose bullets. Breaking that edge fixed the issue and it has been trouble free ever since.

This is the set of sights I am leaning towards, my only reservation is that the rear sight is pretty wide. Current sights are three dot night sights already but front sight does not have a ring.

The Colt Elliason Sight is wide. I would describe the Tru-glo as simply robust.

Classy colt! I see the bushing is aftermarket, what other modifications were done to it?

You are correct on the width of the sight of course. What I should have said is the width of the opening in the rear sight, which seems to be at least .156. Of course the front is pretty beefy as well so it probably balances out.

Quick update on this Kimber. Got the new sights installed and only damaged the original rear sight and made an indent on the slide finish (seen in one of the pics).






This new sight pusher made it much easier, especially to position the new sights in the middle of the slide.
