This Guide to the Denver Accord will explain the:

  • Four Principles of the Denver Accord
  • The Key Policies of the Denver Accord
  • The Recommended Legislation and Policies

After reviewing this, I find that I can support all of this, except:

  • The Principles,
  • The Key Policies, and
  • The Recommended Legislation and Policies.

I agree with Principal #3 & #4, just not their recommendations on how best to accomplish them.

1 Guns do not make us safer.
2 Gun violence in America is a pervasive public health crisis that demands substantial policy solutions and well-funded programs that effectively reduce gun violence.
3 Equitable and just enforcement of gun laws is paramount.
4 Everyone has the right to live free from violence.
I will never apologize for being an American.

Sorry, #4 isn’t a right. A goal, maybe, but not a right.

In reality, violence is a natural condition. While we have changed the world rather substantially with technology and constant effort as a society, it requires the willingness to use force to maintain it. While a gun is not natural, it’s also not the cause of violence, either.

A right is a natural condition that requires no intervention to exist. God given was the founder’s term that is no longer acceptable to the powers that be. Example, you have a right to defend yourself against violence- not a right to not have violence against yourself.

You have a right to pursue happiness, not be happy.

“I want” isn’t a right.

Unfortunately, the current folks in power do not believe you have any rights beyond what they bestow on you.

I think the proper sentence is:

Unfortunately, the current folks in power do not believe in rights, only permissions - which they bestow on you as they deem fit.

Well, they believe in one right: That of government handouts.
