Hornady 7MM PRC

Anyone know much about this new cartridge? Just came across it and checked out some reviews. Been considering a 300 PRC but this might change my mind.

It is brand spanking new. I would really doubt anybody has experience with it out side of the gun writers. I too am excited for this one.

Really, what does a 7mm do that a .30 doesn't?

If you want a 7mm on a ruger belt less case, it will work for you.

I've got plenty of beltless case magnums, and honestly, they don't shoot any better than the belted ones.

Case life might be longer, but in my case it's more how hot I load it rather than case design. Frankly, it's my experience that how well the rifle was put together is determinant of accuracy, not the presence or abscence of a belt.

The load it out long aspect of the PRC design really doesn't do much for me either... put the bullet where it needs to be in relation and if your case is bigger, it really doesn't detract much that the base of the bullet is using up some of the case capacity.

The PRC rounds were designed for a certain gun game which has velocity ceilings. They work, but it isn't some magic pixie dust that turns out automatic sub MOA results at 1000.

What's the advantage of this new cartridge over a 7mm Rem Mag or a 7mm WSM?

I find it rather annoying that at a time when manufactures can't keep product on the shelf due to demand, they come out with something "New and Improved".

With that attitude we would only have about a dozen chamberings in the world. While that is probably all one "needs" variety is the spice of life

I want one. If I did not reload I would be worried about ammo availability.

Watched one of the reviews that listed who is making rifles for it. Savage was one of them. But, will wait for real user experience before investing in a new caliber. It does have my attention at this point.
