Dillon 550 or 650??

I've got a 650 bolted to the Bench now and I'm thinking that my .223RCBS dies aren't going ot work for **** with this machine, due to the seating/crimping die having too deep of a throat and not being able to sufficiently crimp the bullet before the press bottoms out.

Did you buy before or after the '09 price increase? I have never heard that RCBS dies wouldn’t work.

Agreed, I looked at the stated loading rates for single stage versus progressive, and then I thought about buying a single stage as my first press for, oh, I'd say 15 good long seconds. I bought the 550 and am glad I did. I load closer to 250-300 rounds in an hour, but I go slow so far, and rarely reload for an hour straight (don't want to go through all my components in two nights...)

Wouldn't mind a rock chucker for rifle ammo though, sounds like they're more precise.

If you want a single stage on the cheaper you could look at Lee.

MNglocker you can just get a seperate crimping die and I am firm believer in seperate seating and crimping operations, and all your RCBS dies will work just fine in the Dillon. And, if there is any question to how accurate of ammo can be loaded on a Dillon, well they have loaded US Palma Team ammo on them. David Tubb uses Dillon stuff, and his CV speaks for itself. There were problems a ways back with Lee dies have such a short body that they had to have the lock ring installed from below.

Look into the Lee factory crimp die, it's really cheap and works like a champ.
