Gun rights has always been an orphan issue politically because it's a populist, libertarian issue; it's fundamentally about the government having less power and control, while government is inherently all about having power and control. For decades gun owners have had to choose between Democrats who are actively crusading against guns, and Republicans who most often pay lip service to gun rights while doing precious little to uphold them.

I think the best we can do is track actual voting records on proposed gun laws, and remind our representatives that their support for gun rights or lack thereof will be kept in mind the next primary, if a challenger promises to do a better job. At this point the primaries are where votes really count.

The MAGA are all too willing to excuse Trump's anti-gun agenda by claiming he is better than a Democrat. That is just another reason for them to choose Trump again instead of someone else that is not so eager to grab guns or make them more restricted.

Do you guys think Gabbard is more or less anti-gun than Trump?

I think that Gabbard has had a rethink on the issue.

I was asking for forum members opinion on her. Not the opinion of anyone else.

I think Trump is inconsistent and incoherent. He'll spout off whatever he thinks will go over well at any moment, with little understanding of how it will be received, and will have little recollection of what he said later. I don't think that what he says has much predictive value with respect to the policies that will come out of his administration.

I think that Gabbard entered politics as a Democrat pretty much reflexively. She grew up in a left-wing bubble, and adopted the usual gun control nostrums without much reflection. She eventually recognized just how extreme the Democrats have begun and left the Party. And I think she's reconsidered her position with respect to guns after she left. I don't think I'd call her pro-gun, but she's made significant progress.

I think Trump is pro lawful gun owner to a fault. He believes in the US Constitution.

I think Tulsi Gabbard finally saw the hypocrisy and evil found in today's progressive democratic party and found that her moral compass pointed more toward conservative thinking ergo putting two and two together. For instance, Why is the Biden administration working to defund police and take away citizen's right to defend themselves while at the same time weaponizing the Justice Department, growing a federal police force and not prosecuting all kinds of criminals?

You could come up with an answer that tells you that perhaps you need to change your party affiliation...

Trump is not pro-gun, at all. He is a proven, proud, gun grabber and ready for more. How else do you explain his desire to raise the age to buy guns and his push for gun confiscation without due process?

Biden and Trump are both trying to defund law enforcement and take away our firearms. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/congre ... -rcna78301

I have no party affiliation. Both parties are anti-gun. The GOP just lies to us and claims to be pro-gun.

I just read that Tulsi Gabbard flip-flopped on the Fourth Amendment. Not only it's bad in itself, how can one trust her with the Second?

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/tulsi-gabbard-changes-tune-controversial-intelligence-tool-following-gop-lobbying

We have a very important responsibility to strike a balance between national security to keep the American people safe, while also protecting our constitutionally protected freedoms," she said on the House floor in 2018. "Let us make this critical choice. Vote to keep our country safe. Vote to uphold our constitutional rights that so many have fought and died to protect.

The only way not to get disenchanted is not to get enchanted in the first place.
