SAF members now eligible for CA non-resident carry

Postby Lumpy on Sat Jan 25, 2025 3:52 pm

From S.A.F.:
If you are a SAF Member, a resident of the United States outside of California, and not prohibited from owning firearms, you can now apply for a California Non-Resident Carry Permit. Make @gavinnewsom ‘s day: Become a SAF member and apply for that permit.

I haven't bothered with reciprocal permits until now but I may do this just to flip CA the bird.

Briefly scanning the interlinks, it appears the permit costs $200-$300 (depending on where one applies), may takes weeks to months to receive, the applicant must specifically list their carry gun(s), could require up to 16 hrs of classroom/ range training, it's a 'conceal carry only' state, and not surprising, there are a host of restrictions on where one can carry, which may vary throughout the state, includes bars and restaurants... and worst of all, it's california....

Here's the 17 pages of rules and application docs

CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE/ BUREAU OF FIREARMS/ STANDARD INITIAL AND RENEWAL APPLICATION FOR LICENSE TO CARRY A WEAPON CAPABLE OF BEING CONCEALED

Obviously this is a meaningful victory for some people, but I'll be passing.

Given that I am not going to CA (except through an airport, I have never been there) it really is a meaningless win to me.

That's not to say its not important, but it is of no added value to me.

Can be members of any of these organizations:

California Rifle & Pistol Association (CRPA)
Gun Owners of America (GOA)
Gun Owners Foundation (GOF)
Second Amendment Foundation (SAF)
Because I care, I carry.
HOPE for the best in people, but PLAN for the worst.
