That's funny! Cock. But I can say 'smartass' or even 'ass'. Perhaps the software can perceive my mature tone. Penis.

Anyway, I'm guessing you carry the SIG hammer down? If so you should, IMHO, shoot it that way in the match — better training, and that's the point of shooting that gun, right? But I'm guessing Benny will let you do it either way if you want to be a gamer. :)

Belgiboy wrote:When it comes to choosing which gun to shoot at a steel shoot, I'm conflicted between two, my Kimber 1911 and my Sig P220.
Both have been flawless so far when it comes to malfunctions, I shoot both equally crappy when it comes to speedshooting. I am considering the P220 because that is my carry gun and it would be neat to have more and different practise with it, the downside is that it has the DA/SA trigger so I fear I'll be wasting my first shot. At the range I will put that first shot COM every time, but that is at the range.... The Kimber would of course be SA only. I have Blackhawk Serpa holsters for both. Is it OK to **** the hammer before your first shot? What are other people doing that have guns with DA/SA triggers, say Beretta 92.

For all the matches I've been to it is usually ok to cock the hammer for your first shot but you will have to ask Benny as we need to play by his rules and be safe.

That being said, it is considered a huge waste of time to cock the hammer. If it is your carry gun you should be able to shoot the first shot DA competently under pressure anyway. This would be the perfect time to practice, IMO. (like you said)
Yeah, but I shoot with THIS hand.

If roostering the HammAR is like goosing anyone else, I'd be very careful about that. Expect elbows to fly and other objects to follow. Pay up your insurance first :-)

How to train for a Steel Shoot, The plblark first of the year version.

Go pick up 2 random strangers. Drive them all over the county.
Drive through white out conditions in March ... Maybe go through the car wash but leave before the rinse?
The hell with learning that GPS or the exact address ahead of time. It's much more fun to find in whiteout conditions from a google maps printout. Make decisions by committee. Take all the blame.
Mud. You'll need lots of mud.
How you get the 2 ' of mud into the freezer is your business!
Follow EAJuggalo's example and practice in loose shoes.
Carry heavy cold items in the snow. Figure propane tanks or something.
Shoot a lot but poorly. Blame it on the cold. Be disbelieved. Imagine that :-)
Have random strangers abuse you on everything
Repeat in reverse order
Have your wife yell at you when you get home because you stayed too long

Then SMILE because it was so damn much fun!

This sounds like lots of fun, when and where are the steel shoots held?

At Gopher Campfire near Hutchinson. First one this year is April 18th. See this thread among many others. (You mean you didn't read all the existing posts on the forum before asking a question??? ;) )

...and welcome aboard!

The where is Gopher Campfire club just north of Hutchinson. The when is usually a Saturday morning, last year they were generally on the fourth Saturday of the month but I haven't heard anything from Selurcspi about this year. Start time is 0830 and ends sometime around 1500, followed by dinner in Hutchinson for any that are interested.

He posted the schedule on 02/03. viewtopic.php?f=17&t=6334

Maybe a helpful moderator could sticky that?????????? For those who didn't see it at that time. And for those who may be too old to remember back to the third of this month.
