One of the northern territories in Mexico is run by a portion of the military that deserted and formed their own cartel.

Mexico is almost a failed state. They are about to lose what little control that their federal government ever had.

A lawless, failed state on our southern border is intolerable. I can truly imagine U.S. troops involved at some point. Think Afghanistan, right next door... Just replace the Taliban with "drug cartels."

Yeah, and like we have been selling them fully automatic weapons and grenades - available at every Wally World, and traded openly at gun shows...

I've read that they'll go so far as to ban anything with a detachable magazine, anything semi-automatic, anything over 10 rounds, any "thing that goes up" otherwise known as a barrel shroud, etc.

We'll be down to bolt and lever rifles, and revolvers. Wish they made a lever action rifle in .500 S&W so I could have a matched carry piece and rifle. If we're going back to the 1820's I'd like to do so in style.

Oops, drifting. Sorry.

That would be a sad day if the simplest things like a new 1911 was banned simply because its semi-automatic and therefore an assault weapon.

I hope they don't get away with adding anything to the ban, much less get it re-enacted at all.

It is already against the law in Mexico to own guns. Outlawing the sale of some types of guns in the US doesn't make any sense. but then reason is not one of their strong points. How about actually building the wall that was voted on and stopping the drug trafficking?

This is rich. Seriously it's too funny.

Mexico is saying that all those weapons are coming form us? I mean seriously US? What do they have thousands of people buying up guns through private sales and smuggling them down to Mexico to sell them? This team of buys must know a lot of people with machine guns and have a lot of money to obtain them because the last gun show I was at they had a really beat up fully-automatic M-16 going for $15,000.

Also if there is such a team of buyers I hope they let me know where they come across these deals.

I really like the ban on large magazines, threaded barrels, and bayonet lugs. I just can't count how many news stories I see of criminals using bayonets, or how much safer we all are because the criminals could only get 10rnd mags instead of 20rnd....

I sent the below letter to Peterson, not sure if I should send it to Coleman and/or Franken, but I figured I'd post it here. It's likely not the most eloquent thing you've ever seen, it might even downright suck, I did write it about 3am, but here it is.

Rep. Peterson,
Since President Obama's statement about reinstating the failed 1994 assault weapons ban, I wanted to do two things in this letter to you. First, I want to state, that as a veteran, I am absolutely disgusted by the belief that the weapons the president seeks to ban, are to blame. To say that a weapon or the capacity of a magazine should be blamed is the same as saying it wasn’t a person who caused the Sept. 11th attacks, instead the airplanes are at fault and should be banned. The weapons aren't the problem, nor are high-capacity magazines. Criminals don't follow laws, all this legislation will do is disarm the law-abiding citizens and make criminals out of others.
Secondly, if you value the possibility of re-election, you won’t vote for the passage of this bill. I would rather not have to put things so bluntly, but my right to own firearms is worth more to me than your job. I didn't spend 4 years in the army to be told that I was only standing up for certain parts of the bill of rights.
Hopefully you’ve already decided this is how you’d like to vote, if not, then hopefully you’ll read into how the original assault weapons ban had little to no effect on violent crime. (http://www.urban.org/UploadedPDF/aw_final.pdf)

Enjoy

By the way, if anyone has any suggestions for my letter let me know, I work overnights and until I'm positive of their voting plans there will be bi-weekly or weekly emails to reps and whichever senator is elected. So to have a better version of this, and so it's not the same thing week after week might be more effective.

Most of the crime on the U campus is the work of Somalis from the projects next door. They like to roam around the campus at night in packs. Of course you can't carry on campus unless you want to risk expulsion so easy pick'uns.
