Let me clarify.... I would like to get a beat up old machete, and am willing to part with the price of a beer or two (three if necessary). I'm hoping someone has one out in the garage, or tool shed. New ones are easy to come by, beat up ones........ not so much.

Thanks to all of you who have been pointing out the good deals though, it is very appreciated. If worse comes to worse I will definately look into one of the ones mentioned........ or seven of the ones Dean pointed out.

By beat up, do mean "handle broke in the woods and was fixed with paracord and twigs and now it hurts to hold it"?

Of course, if you go to Walmart, you might get a little something extra.

Straddie. Those cheap machetes are high carbon steel. Buy one for five bucks, cover the cutting edge with some good grease then rub a rag dipped in salty street run off and leave it wrapped in a plastic bag. Instant aging.

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=94154 $4.99 (online price may or may not match in store) - drop it in a puddle and leave it outside for a couple days and it will look rustic! (if not weathered enough, you can always run over it once or twice)

I've got a sugar-can knife that has gotten a little worn over the years, but I'm not willing to part with it since my uncle gave it to my grandpa years ago (brought it for him from Colombia I think), and gramps gave it to my dad, and he let me have it several years ago. works great for custom fitting sod in addition to hacking brush and stuff!
