Hmm... I wonder if this whole thing is artificial?

It's only artificial if the current administration doesn't do anything to justify the fears of the firearm community. If President* Obama decides to re-impose the Assault* weapons ban, or try to institute the silly ammunition microstamping nonsense on a federal level, I'd say this current action will be viewed as justified and necessary. I say time will tell.

Am just glad, given the national situation, that that darned fish house fire dropped everything to the bottom of the lake...

There have been problems with primers for a long time, ie for at at least the last 2.5 years or so. One of the more specific primers to point out is the Federal 150. This has been spotty supply. At the time Federal supposedly was filling back logs of orders. Then the war excuse popped up. This is not really that new. And, of course other things like Slick Willy closing down the Govt Armories in the early part of his admin. of course the ammo burned up in DS I was never replaced so to speak, and then we invaded Iraq. With the increase training tempo, and other needs persisiting. So, then the Govt had to tap other sources....even foreign vendors ie IMI....Remember when Win 3131A cheap?

And, yeah NOOB reloader are experiencing being told no primers and no powder hence they whine. While they joined the dance program late, now they are buying up what ever can be bought. But saavy reloader have been buying a the while.

You just have to be patient!

A good hint is to look at Accurate Powders, Ramshot, and swallow hard look at VV powders....they seem to be easier to find.....

Go look at Powder Valley, they got nothing....you just have to get a an order placed and be patient!

You can't tell me that the situation hasn't gotten progressively worse in the last couple months. When I started reloading...... Yes, I am a newbie :| ..... about a year ago or so I could pretty easily find what i needed. If one store didn't have it, another did. If that didn't work, you could just substitute for a different brand (primers or powder for blasting ammo) and go to a different tested recipe to get you by. Now, it seems the shelves are bare everywhere. Cabela's, Midway, Sportsman's warehouse, and even Gunstop have to shrug off shortages of things that were commonplace four months ago. Not just the rookies are complaining, I'm hearing the same gripes from people that have been reloading for the last 30 years. I don't doubt that this shortage has been a problem for years, but I'm going to stand by my belief that the fear of the current administration and President* Obama is partially to blame for the inhanced drought in the last couple of months.

And ET, thanks again for the heads up. Much appreciated. :D

One thing I would offer up......is call, email, etc. Federal, CCI, Winchester, and Remington...ask them where the primers are? the retailers.......at the mercy of the mfg.

I did hear a pretty good explanation for the shortage across all mfgs. I know a guy who developed his own cowboy action cartridge and is contact with the mfgs fairly regularly. One confesed they are not ramping up production to meet the hoarding demand because eventually either the hoarding will end or their product will be banned. Either way they get stuck with a huge capital investment in new machines and no demand.
