A2 shooting questions

I'm trying to become proficient at shooting my RRA NM A2. I've loaded up a bunch of .223 with 69-gr Matchkings over 24.5 gr of RL-15 to practise with. I've also been reading books about the subject, the latest being 'The Competitive AR-15' by Glen Zediker. It advises the shooter to 'look past the rear aperture sight'. I'm not quite sure what that means and I wondered if anybody could clarify. I have the 0.040" hooded aperture rear sight with the 0.050" front post.

I take it as meaning focus on the front sight.

First and last thought when shooting iron sights "Front Sight" Perhaps you should hit up one of the service rifle clinics at Gopher, North Star, or Elk River? Get help from shooters.....

I just got confused on how to look past the rear aperture AND centering the front post in the rear aperture at the same time.
When you look at pics from service rifle shooters, their eyeballs are practically touching the rear aperture. They are that close to the rear sight. So I take it that they do that to line up their eye so that they would only have two focal planes to deal with (front post and target)

My advice,

1st: Take Zidiker's book and put it some where it won't hurt you until you learn some basics.

2nd: Read the first 4 chaprers of Jim Qwens book "Sight Alignment, Trigger Control and the Big Lie".

I also wrote a basic introduction to High Power Rifle handout with some basic information I cover in the Post's Service Rifle clinics. It doesn't get into sight alignment but has some basic shooting position info.

Once you get some of the basics down, go back to Zidiker, it may make more sense.

Take this advice.

You wont need to know more than this for a long time. Except they only mention a sling in the last paragraph. Get a good sling, and not a rifle strap.
