What's the coolest target/object you have shot?

if you wish to go to objects I have shot, then we can go back to 16 pound bowling balls out of a large section of well casing. propellant was a few seconds spray of gasoline from a garden sprayer, ignition was via a sparkplug and contacts on a supercoil. we launched them well out of visible range.


THis is not us, but who in the hell leaves a 20K Jeep down muzzle from a cannon? rednecks I suppose.....

ok,. i have a painball tank that has a broken valve and wont let co2 in or out form a machine. so its busted. im thinking about shooting it with my .243 form a long distance. any thoughts on this? it sounds good to me... let me remind, it is plum full of co2...

I think it's a terrible idea. You should give it to me so I can shoot it. You'll have to let me borrow your .243 as well.

yes it is a terrible idea how foolish of me. i could probably get it from about 300-4-- yards out if i try hard. does that make it better? i have a tasco target/varmint scope on it. 6-24x42.

Strad, isn't it you that posted the 10 yard apple shots that needed about 15 rounds before you managed to hit it. I think this CO2 bottle is out of your league at anything like a safe distance.....

OK, I got to stand up for Strad, I can confirm that the shots were taken at 100 yards and that there were multiple people on the line shooting and that was the extra shots you heard and he did successfully fulfill the sniper’s mantra of “one shot, one kill”. Although, apples don’t move…

As a kid we would go to the dump outside of town and find discarded paint cans. We would then start a small fire, toss the can on, and plink at it with a BB gun once it got hot.

The jet of flames usually orients itself straight up and is quite spectacular.

Left too long, the explosion will usually blow the fire out.

Or start a small grass fire that almost got away...A massive pulse accelerant since my dad was asst. fire chief and my buddy's dad was a state Highway Patrol officer...

I now am much more responsible...at least that is what I coach the grandson to tell the women folk...

"Usually" seems to be the key term there, and one that must leave room for some more fun and interesting stories.

Shooting a 50 DE into a big mud puddle at a gravel pit that is now a range is kinda cool. Yoc can count to 4 before all the water comes back down.

Actually, the coolest thing I ever shot was Lake Superior. Back in the mid 70's, I owned a 44 Automag, and was on Lake Superior up by Little Marais on the 4th of July. It was an incredibly rare day where the lake was pure glass with no ripples, and I thought WTF? - how far out can you shoot and still see the splash? Turns out to be an incredibly LOOONNNGGG way. I started out by shooting 100 - 200 yards out on the lake (this is where it's 70 miles wide, so no danger of the bullet hitting anything.) Wound up holding the gun at a 30 degree up angle, and some of the flight times were 4 seconds or better, but that big 44 caliber slug still made a very satisfying splash that was clearly visible.
