Suppressed AR

Postby Drizzle on Mon Jun 01, 2009 2:55 pm

No, I don't have one. But the fed who was at Bill's North Friday did. I was trying out my Ciener.22 conversion with my new Black Dog magazines (works like a charm, let me tell you), when I started hearing -thump thump thump from a couple of lanes over.

I stuck my head around the divider and watched a Federal Conservation Officer sighting in his suppressed AR. The can was a lot shorter than I expected, maybe eight inches. Pretty cool, though, and the first one I've ever heard/seen in person. Attracted some attention on the range for sure.

Interesting -- Fish & Wildlife Service or a different agency?

Conservation Officers work for state (DNR) and federal (DHS) governments and are licensed peace officers.

......as I understand it, typically Conservation Officers that work for the federal government are called special agents under DHS - GAME LAW ENFORCEMENT. Park Rangers are also under DHS.

Yes, the suppresses are surprisingly small for the 223 cartridge. mine is only 6.8" long(the can that is,. ;) )
in Minnesota the DNR can possess 10 sound suppressors total, so he was apparently 10% of the lucky Minnesota folks that get to use one..

And yes, feel free to move over to the WI side of the bridge.. we love suppressors over here.. You can even Hunt with them! (legally)

His shoulder patch said Conservation, which I took to be federal, not state, and didn't say US F&WS, which I've seen before.

He had the rifle in a large doskocil type case, padded with foam, which probably floats, should it fall off of a boat somewhere...

The club cab Ford I saw outside with the cage for the backseat had federal plates.

I don't think so. The colors were different, and I don't think it was this one subdued. The patch I saw was rounded, not a shield shape.
