Any prerequisites? I've had Def. Pist. Tacs. 1 and 2 with Don L. By summer's end, I will have also had DPT 3 (a new course) and at least one other class. I've had the P2C for a little over a year.
Bensdad,
We strongly recommend having taken a Combat Focus Shooting Course (1 or 2 day) prior to attending CFSID. We have a slightly higher than 50% certification rate for all students attending CFSID since 2005. For students who have never trained with us before and know little about the program before they show up, the certification rate is under 20%.
The course is not a shooting course, it is a course designed to help you understand and be able to teach CFS. Only one half day of the 4 day program is on the range.
So, while we don't have Pre-Requisites, per se, we don't want people to waste their time or show up expecting that demonstrating shooting skill is going to be the equivalent of demonstrating an understanding of CFS and an ability to share it with others.
At the very least, one should prepare by reviewing the CFS DVD, Book and other available information (podcasts, online videos, articles, etc).
All that said, for those who do not pass the certification tests (one written, one practical) on the last day of the course, certification can be achieved through re-testing. I have had people achieve certification almost a year after attending CFSID after submitting a couple of sample videos of them demonstrating their teaching ability and/or re-taking the written test. The opportunity is also there to attend another testing day at a future CFSID for a minimal fee.
There are already several commitments from some long time students of CFS. This is undoubtedly going to be a great course with a lot of good discussion and solid teaching demos. It is also one week before our Annual CFS Instructor Conference, so the course will be the "latest & greatest" and include all of the updates that other instructors will be getting at the conference!
JoeH,
Send me an email and I'll add you to the list!
