My advice to the OP, Keep the HK, and get a 1911. No excuses.

Makes things much easier. :D

Yup. My preferences are as follows: Glock for Carry, 1911 for shooting pleasure. Multiples of each are to be desired.

If Colt made a Glock, and Glock made a 1911, my world would be turned upside down.

I carried a Glock in law enforcement and it was my principal protection weapon until about four months ago when I switched to 1911s.

I won't lie though - while I love my 1911's, it was only recently that I got my two main carry ones (Kimber CDP II - classic and one in ultra) running to the point that I was comfortable carrying them. They certainly require more knowledge, tuning, and practice then my Glock does.

That said, now that I have them running in a fashion that I'm comfortable with - I wouldn't go back.

Well an empty 1911 makes a lot better club than an empty Glock does. You may have a point! I've seen Glocks that run as poorly as a 1911 that runs poorly. Crappy guns can be had in all makes and models.

I think either one will Eff up somebody's day quite well, so I don't get too hung up on which one is best. I do like the lack of a safety as being one less thing I need to remember when I'm busy soiling myself and defending myself at the same time.
