if youre willing to drop a grand id suggest a springfield EMP 9mm. its a small frame 1911 that fits great in small hands. the recoil is very light for a small gun. a great shooter and easily concealable.

oops....posted right after. i guess the emp is out. rent one anyway!

I had the 82 with me when we tried the Sig, but her thumb hurt too much to try it. Don't have a PA63, but will look into it.

The BERSA is definitely worth a try. I didn't see if anyone offered, but if you want to borrow mine, that's cool.

One gun that often gets overlooked is the Beretta Cheetah which is a .380 but is fairly heavy as far as .380's go. It's got to be a pussycat to shoot. I don't know where you would find one to try.

look for a used S&W 3913, 3914, 908, something like that, or a S&W CS9. Single stack 9mm's, very pleasant shooting, a real defensive cartridge. I have a CS9 she can try if you want.
other pistols that fit small hands well, glock 19 and 26, browning hi powers, XD9 pistols...
Gunstop had (as of last week), a beretta 92 compact type 'm'-single stack 9mm, utterly reliable, very nice to shoot.

I'll probabbly get flamed for this, but look at a Taurus PT111 or PT380, or the 24/7 C in 9mm.
Never mind the typos. My keyboard is full of beer, crumbs and Dr. Peper........and .........the typo and grammer police can go to........HE..!.....no...wait a minute......California!

I'll burn with ya. My MilProPT111 is a dandy little gun. GM even has a 138 in pink (for the womenz).

I would third the suggestion of the Taurus PT111. Sound gun which shoots every time in my experience and is wonderfully small. Easy to conceal. And not all that much recoil for a tiny gun. Going up a little in scale, the Glock 19 would be my next choice, depending on how she wants to conceal.

Some have had issues with taurus firearms......Mine had a few malfunctions untill I put about 150 rounds through it. Now it goes bang everytime, and I can easily shoot 3 inch groups at 21 feet, quite rapidly.

To me, it was all the "feel" or "grip" of the gun.....it is the most natural feeling gun I have picked up, and shoots to my natural point of aim.

Everyone is different, but I wouldn't waste my money on a Taurus......again.

This hasn't been mentioned but you could look into a Colt Mustang. It's an all steel 380 so the recoil is cut down somewhat, and I believe 380 is certainly a defensive caliber.PM me if she would care to try one.

How about a hi power. It has always seemed to me to be the most ergo friendly of all handguns.

I am not at all familiar with S&W autoloaders, this might be interesting. I also haven't thought of the XD, thinking it was kinda large, will have to try it.

I forgot about those...

I love how Hi-power shoots, but it hammer-bites me. It might be different for her, so I would have to try that as well, but for now my HP is out of commission. I need to get an oversize sear for it to fix it.

Everyone who offered to lend a pistol - I have one borrowed pistol now, and I would like to keep the borrowing to one at a time to avoid confusion. I will probably take you up on the offer, though. Thank you.

As an interesting aside, mom said she stopped by a gun shop and handled a Glock that she thought felt very nice in her hand. Unfortunately, she can't remember the model and all Glocks look pretty much the same... :)

Try one of these.

Beretta Model 86 Cheetah 380 ACP

Unique tip-up barrel for direct chamber loading and unloading (not requiring the slide to be pulled rearward to load or unload).
Very good accuracy as barrel is fixed (hinged) to the frame.
