Letter I got from Betty McCollum

Postby ssax on Sat Jul 18, 2009 6:58 pm

Thank you for contacting me about gun legislation. I appreciate hearing from you.

I support the right of Minnesotans to hunt, fish, and enjoy the great outdoors. These recreation pursuits are Minnesota traditions and it is important that these opportunities remain available for all to enjoy. However, we must support strong gun safety laws that keep guns out of the hands of criminals and children, not people who hunt. Far too many people are the victims of gun violence in our nation, including the hundreds who are killed and thousands that are injured in unintentional shootings. We must do more to prevent this type of violence from occurring, including continuing background checks, requiring safety devices that prevent guns from being used by someone other than the owner, and reinstating the ban on military style assault weapons.

Many criminals who use a firearm to commit a crime obtain the weapons illegally. Although it is difficult to prevent all criminals from obtaining firearms, strong background checks can reduce this danger significantly. Criminal background checks for gun purchases have prevented more than 600,000 attempted gun purchases by prohibited purchasers such as felons, fugitives, and domestic abusers. These checks are virtually instant: 72 percent are conducted within several minutes and over 95 percent in tho hours. Furthermore, criminal background checks do not prevent law-abiding citizens from obtaining a firearm for recreational purposes.

Be assured I will continue to work with my colleagues and the Administration on sensible firearm policies that promote safety and security first, without restricting the rights of lawful gun owners to use firearms for recreational purposes.

Thank you again for taking the time to contact me.

Sincerely,

Betty McCollum
Member of Congress

First question would be, what did you write to her that prompted this lame response? Second question, did you expect her to support anything even vaguely resembling personal responsibility and/or self defense? This is why I tried to help build support for Ed Matthews in his campaign against her last year. He was a virtual unknown running against the Democratic incumbant in an overwhelmingly liberal district in a year that clearly belonged to liberal candidates with few exceptions. In spite of that, he got over 31% of the votes. Many members of this board made contributions of time, money, and/or the use of their yard for a campaign sign. All of this was appreciated and will hopefully be a base to build on for 2010. Ed is 100% behind the 2nd amendment and deserves all the support we can give him next time. In contrast, you get BS and obfuscation on the issue from Betty. Actually, I'm surprised she even gave her lip service to hunting. This tool probably had to ask Nazi Pelosi how she should respond to obvious nuts like you. Here is a picture of her and some of her close friendswhich I found on her website last year.

She gives the typical Brady Campaign talking points and does not mention self defense. Wasn't she some sort of office help before she was elected?

Look at the picture above. The million moms campaign is a branch of the Brady Bunch.

This is from the million moms website:

Sorry for not responding earlier, I posted right before I had to leave for water skips in Grantsburg, WI. Fun time.

Anyways,

I don't remember what I sent to her. There have been a few I have sent usually through NRA-ILA and Gunrights alerts. I wrote a letter right after Eric Holder talked about the AWB so it probably could have been that. I'm just starting to get into the political side, I have a lot to learn so I figured I would get some opinions on this stuff.

Am going to start a group called the "Ten Million Man March." If I get three folks to join, I will be happy.

The funny thing is, she's been my "Congressman" for many years I can not for the life of me pick her out in this photo. When was the last time she has been in the pubic eye,or done anything not worthy ? Talk about being stealthily.

The Second Amendment isn't about hunting. It's about protection from petty tyrant wanna-be's just like Betty. She is clearly in violation of Title 18, Section 242 and possibly 241 as well for her admitted advocacy of still more "infringements" of our RKBA.

It isn't the "Bill of Suggestions that can be easily ignored". It's the Bill of Rights. Our Rights. As US Citizens. Not just citizens of each State.

Yup We just need another SCOTUS decision on one of RKBA these matters making their way upstream, before Obama gets a chance to appoint a second Supreme Court justice.
