The Royal Navy took a wide eyed 16yo kid and gave him a 308 FAL and taught me how to use it.
After that I was hooked.

Are you kidding? You expect me to remember back that far? Actually, my Dad wasn't then and really isn't now, too much into firearms. My first shotgun was a borrowed 20 ga that a friend of my Dad's lent to him in an effort to get him interested in pheasant hunting. I used it that one season when I was 12 and was pretty well hooked. For christmas my folks got me my first 12 ga. Before that, I was in the woods pretty much all the time with my M1 replica BB gun before I upgraded to a Crossman pump pellet gun.

I started shooting at 10 because my brothers (8 and 6) got BBguns from our grandpa. I think I got a new doll. We would shoot in the shop in the basement. Then upgraded to shotguns and rifles when my brothers were taking gun safety. We would clay shoot on various farms and do a little target practice. I would use the guys guns. When my husband and I started dating we would go out with his .22 and 12 ga. My interest grew and grew until I decided it was time to go deer hunting. I bought my little brother's 12ga. I got one of those "Hunter's apprentice" passes that MN offers (good idea) and that was a good time. I didn't have any clear shots but I got to gut 2 in our party. After that experience I finished adult firearms safety training, have gone pheasant hunting 2 times, picked up on handguns, completed Permit to Carry training, bought a Walther PPS, and am back in school for Law Enforcement.
What a long strange trip it has been!

Started with a Daisy BB gun when I was about six, and shot my first duck with a .22 Remington Nylon 66 when I was nine. It's OK though, as I was trespassing on Cobb's land, and never told him ( until now...).

Embarassing but true. My brother-in-law gave me a BB-gun a couple of months after I moved over here from Belgium. I was 31  I have been trying to make up for lost time ever since.

I suppose I started shooting .22 rifles as a kid in middle school, mostly on a farm that was in the family. I started a small collection in the late 80s /early 90s, but didn't shoot them much. The first gun I ever actually bought was a Sig-Sauer P226; the rest were all hand-me-down's from dad or the grandparents.

My dad took me to Gunsite for the intro pistol class when I was 30, and I started shooting a bit after that, and even went out to Oakdale for the IPSC shoots a few times one season in the late 90s. I took a few more classes, mostly rifle.

Then I completely lost interest in shooting for about five years. Didn't shoot or even touch any of my guns. I didn't sell any of them, though, so maybe I knew I'd get back into it. I started shooting and doing gun-related stuff again about two years ago, but I didn't make room for it by getting rid of any of my (more time-consuming) hobbies, so life is pretty busy these days.

A few weeks ago I receive my first gun, it was those that shoot rubberbands......I joke I joke
I shot a 25 berreta when I was 16 and was hooked, for my very first gun I had a choice between a 1911 style coonan 357 mag or 50AE desert eagle, of course after watching the matrix the hand canon seemed more appealing, I'm still kicking my own ass this day, then I enjoyed the sport so much I join a gun club, US Marine Corps, possibly join one on here locally someday as well

You guys are total veterans;) I not only come from a non-firearms family but I don't even have relatives that have guns. Were the Dutch pacifists maybe...lol.

I didn't shoot my first gun until about a month ago. I'm 36.

Why did I start? Self-defense, to protect my family, and to prepare for the apocalypse that Obama is going to bring to this country in about 3-5 years...and to own at least one gun before Obama takes them away.

I cannot remember when I first fired a gun. It was in the very early 1960's though.

I was 3 or 4 and my great uncle had my brother and I down on the river bottoms at my grandfathers farm shooting .22 shorts out of an old Winchester .22 pump.
