More and more Democrats are seeing the light. I think we'll get more mileage our of another favorable SCOTUS decision.

Although it sucks we lost this one and even though it was expected it really sucks to be screwed over by our senators we got close. In fact we got very close. I'm guessing the gun grabbers are breathing a sigh of relief but crapping themselves over how much clout we seem to have even with the democrats.

I think we'll get national reciprocity eventually, it'll just take time.

I really don't think it has that much to do with who the party politics as much as their own political futures. When I look at the vote breakdown by state, it looks like most the Senators were voting with their state gun views in mind, rather then the Dem party.

When you need 60 votes to pass the bill and you only get 58, the ultimate result is precisely the same.

This bill was deeply flawed from the start. It was best not passed.

Rethinking the title. The Anti Gun, Anti Civil Rights Dem leadership BARELY managed to block the most important new national gun rights bill in over a decade. This is a kick in the teeth and very nearly a kick in the balls of the entire anti gun anti self defense camp. Think about it. Flawed or otherwise. We came with in TWO votes of being able to travel to NY, CA, MA, and NJ, and being legal carrying a gun there.

Yes. That, in a filibuster-proof Senate. Few Republicans crossed the aisle, but many Democrats did. This says much about where the center of that party is, and how marginalized the VPC/Bradys truly are.

Primarily, too much Federal control over the permit system. It would be best kept under state control, like driver's licenses. When ALL US jurisdictions are made to accept permits from anywhere, then it'll be worth it. Not until.

Think about it. Basically the rule was to be that if you had a permit, you could carry, provided the state you carried in issued permits. This would become a wedge issue in the restrictive states (such as Maryland, Hawaii, or New Jersey), prodding their legislatures to ban carry outright. We would lose ground.

We need our permits to be accepted on all US soil, even Illinois, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. Then banning in-state would have no effect on people with out-state permits.

This is like the question regarding the chicken and the egg. Either the 2nd needs to be incorporated before a law like this would work or maybe something like this would eventually help lead to incorporation.
