SPEC SHEET

The M&P15 rifle line has expanded to now include the new M&P15-22. Chambered in .22LR, the M&P15-22 rifle is built with high strength polymer upper and lower receivers. This creates a reduced weight rifle that retains the looks and operating features of the standard M&P15 rifle. The M&P15-22 will be available in August 2009 and the fixed-stock Compliant model October 2009. Order now from your favorite local dealer!

If it comes as pictured, that wouldn't be all that bad.

If it's anything like the Colt .22, I'll pass. You can buy a decent dedicated .22 upper for that price.

I'm not sure but isn't the Colt actually made by Umarex? I didn't realize they were even available yet.

Yep, the Colt is made by Umarex, which is somehow involved with Walther. Hows that for a confusing mess. I think this is how it goes. Umarex makes it, paid for branding as a Colt, but imported to us by Walther (through S&W of course)
So maybe that makes the 2 guns cousins, or maybe even the same one with different markings.

What is the report on the Colt?

I see Big Green has one based on the 597 now too.

I probably wouldn't buy it because there is no option for open sights.

My understanding is Umarex , an airsoft company, markets the gun, which is made by Walther, but I've been wrong before.

I'm hoping the local S&W rep will have a copy at Streichers this week. Sig has promised a 22 cal copy of their 556 in August , but I bought a P250 based on their marketing promises. Fool me once, I'll believe Sig when I hold theirs in my hands.

Squib Joe, any dates\prices on any of these three 22LR rifles, Colt, Sig or S&W?

I have the Colt 22 in stock. The M&P will probably arrive before the Sig ... I would guess within the next month or two. The S&W 15-22 and the SIG522 will both have a street price in the 425-475 range

I have seen some posts on other forums and a few Youtube videos about the M&P 15-22. I now have my name on a waiting list to get one. Should be a fun little gun to shoot and with the cheap 22LR you can shoot all day and not feel the money flying out of the wallet. ;-)

Anyone else got one yet or planning on it? I have seen good reports about them. Being mostly plastic seemed to be a concern, but after reading and watching a few reviews, it really does not seem to be an issue. Just don't expect much more than a "fun gun" and nothing more really.

I did get a chance to speak with the S&W rep, Mike Fischer, at Streichers. Mike, like many of the S&W reps, worked for Glock before the M&P and he is straight shooter. Mike said the 22LR is to ship the 1st part of next week and they should have their samples by Labor Day. He did say he had about 30 minutes and 150 rounds with the gun several months back. They make the gun in house and Mike said they seemed very well made ( OK, not completely objective) but he said they plan to market it to law enforcement it is solidly built, better than say a GSG.

Based on this report I ordered one from my training partner who is Riverside Sporting Gear and a factory authorized Smith dealer. No price or date yet, but he hopes to get it locally. I'll let you know when I get one.

They are out there. I have heard of people getting them already and there are a few listed on Gunbroker.com

I will wait on the list like many others. Besides, I need the time to save up for one ;-)
