anyhow, those mounts look like a viable option... customizable for any holster or location it appears...

I hope this is a joke.... remember the guy at the Fairbault gun show a couple of years back. I believe he stuck his glock on the bathroom stall hook.. went to retrieve it and bang.. the gun basically bump fired off a couple of shots, I believe he shot his hand in the process of trying to get it to stop. With an external safety and an empty chamber you would get away with it... but doesn't seem like a good idea. You could use multiple hooks and not run one through the trigger guard. YMMV

I'd take odds that it was a joke. Further, if its coming from Hammar, that'd be a pretty sure bet. Thats a well known storage no-no around these parts (I hope). If not, then Good Lord I hope common sense would tell a person that might be a little dangerous.

A good instructor who posts here shares this example in his PTC class. It was a LEO I believe. No further comment...

No worries. I'd rather somebody regarded that like you did, rather than take it seriously and start mounting hooks all over the house! Best to be on the safe side.

The hook would not be a problem because everyone knows you carry with the chamber empty and hammer down...........

I spose the pump 12 ga. could hang on a hook then... ;)

Otherwise I've got some attention to pay to my pistol when I get home. Here I thought the idea was to have a chance of defending yourself!

(Joking, a person's carrying condition is up to them... I guess.)

Now on the other hand i keep mine in a safariland ALS minus the paddle in my headboard, the release mechanism on the ALS is such that if i were to grip the gun to a shooting position in a hurry, the holster flys off (with quite a lot of authority if you do it fast enough, i know i've tried it) all by itself. Alternatively like you said, go buy some fobus and find a place to affix it with whatever method you feel comfortable with to a handy nearby location.

Now for the most important question, what exactly is wrong with the 12g under the bed for home protection? a handgun is only to fight to the shotty or the rifle, and anyways dont you have a kitty who thinks its cujo, you couldnt have a better home defense than cujo

Cat is only worth anything if its a dog she's staring down. Anyone else is just somebody she might convince to give her some cat food, or let her get out the door.

12 ga. under the bed is fine by me, but it makes her nervous just laying under the bed, so this is a compromise. There are tools other places ready to go if need be. Not as great as a shotgun probably, but we'd have a couple .45's working in tandem, so thats better than a kick in the pants.

I'd like the holster to be mounted, rigid, to something so as to make the draw a more certain action. Don't want to draw against something that gives, and might bind as you try to clear the holster. I thought about a piece of metal, bent 90 degree's with about 18'' to go under the mattress, then 4'' vertical to attach a holster. Something like that. I'll do some looking around today, thanks for the replies everyone.

Here's an option for the 12 gauge idea....

That's pretty clever and thanks for the link! You could probably make one pretty quick and easy for less than the $40 asking price, depending on what your time is worth.........

(i'm planning on testing that theory myself. ;) )

Only trouble I see is that the area around the trigger and safety are exposed. If chamber empty and hammer down, probably not a big deal. But if somebody leaves it chambered, its a little to out in the open. Not saying I would, but somebody else might.

I don't own a pump at the moment, so I guess it doesn't matter quite yet to me.

The wilderness safe packer could be another option. You can open the cover flap and place in-between mattress and box-spring. The side has velcro for quick draw.
