Pre-Season Conditioning

Postby mrmuko on Wed Aug 19, 2009 3:21 pm

I live in the east metro area. Does anyone know of a location where a fella could let his dog run through a field and maybe retrieve a few dummies in preparation of the upcoming season?

I didn't have time to read it but here's a link for DNR application for dogs afield. http://search.state.mn.us/dnr/query.htm ... =0&qt=dogs

There are a bunch of Dog Parks in the area, I know of one in the south Mpls area by the airport that doesn't require a permit and is leash free........ Would something like that work?

It's at the end of 28th ave. If you take 46th street to 28th ave, and head south... the street will end at the airport. On the west side of the street is the dog park. pretty large area.

There is another large, off-leash dog park just south of the Arlington and Arkwright intersection. That's a few blocks East of I-35E between Larpenture and Maryland. Some open area, lots of trees, large dog only.

That would probably be a wasted effort.

You had better let your Dog carry your gun to that park......... Better get him/her a permit

A dog getting a permit is not unheard of....

Rumor has it that the reason the MAC allowed dog owners to park in their lot and bring their dogs their is to deter crime.

Unless I'm missing something, it's my understanding that as long as it's after July 15th, you can let your dog run in the field. I'm pretty sure that means wildlife management areas too. As long as you don't have a gun and actually shoot birds, just letting the dog run is fine.

Am I wrong?

there is a fantastic dog park in rosemount just off cty 46 and blaine ave. it is 50 acres including woods and water and is currently being used by many dog people for the same purpose as yourself. There is a $5 a day charge if you do not have a yearly pass ($30) and your dog must have a rabies tag displayed. There is perpetually a dakota cty sherrifs detupty reserve on site who will tow your vehicle if you havent paid and will not tolerate any stupid behaviour from anyone. its a great faciity funded in its entirety by yearly and daily passes and voluntary contributions. The land was donated by a local farmer and those of us who use it spend time every year to keet this facility very nice. If you are interested, come on down and enjoy it.
