My understanding was that J&S changed hands a few years ago. The prices were high back then when I think brothers owned it, but they seemed to at least greet you and find out what you were looking for. The last couple of times I have been in there, which has been a year or so ago, even though I am in their neighborhood a couple time a month, yes, their BS'ing on the phone seemed more important.
I think you hit it right on the head Cobb.
I've been in that shop exactly 3 times. Once when it was in the space next to where it is now. I had cash in my pocket and appropriate permits/ID, and was looking for a specific gun. They had it on the wall and I was the only one in the shop besides the two guys behind the counter. I asked twice if they would help me, they heard me but totaly ignored me and continued talking. I took the cash out of my pocket and laid it on the counter, only now did they stop talking and ask if they could help me. I swept up the cash and told them I was heading across the street to Gander Mtn (and actually found the gun there a LOT cheaper).
The 2nd time was in the new storefront. When the guy finally got off the phone with his buddy he tried to tell me that a S&W 686 was in general one of the worst revolvers ever made. I just turned and walked out.
The last time I was looking for a specific discontinued pistol. I hadn't had any luck finding it, so since I was in the neighborhood I figured I'd give them one last chance and stopped in. To my amazement they had one in stock (not the exact one I was looking for, but pretty close and appealing enough to consider). The tag was upside down, so I had to wait for the guy to get off the phone. Then I had to get his attention to get some help (I was the only one in the store). He flipped the price tag over and it was TWO TIMES the going price of that handgun! I thanked him for his time and left. I will never step foot in there again. Amazing enough, about 3 days later I found the exact handgun I was looking for, in Burnsville (from a private party) for $400 cheaper than J&S asking price!
