Outdoor Channel S.W.A.T. Magazine

Postby westberg on Sun Jan 03, 2010 1:52 pm

Did anyone happen to watch last Wednesday Outdoor Channel's S.W.A.T. Magazine TV? Rob Pincus is the host, he was showing a trainer I think his name was Les Awstruck or something close, I had not heard of him prior to the program. He had a interesting training concept where he mounted flat paper bad guy targets so they bowed out to make them 3D. The idea behind this was depending on how the target was facing you or you facing the target you would have a much smaller kill zone then shooting at the flat paper target squared up or even quartering away.

I thought it was a interesting way of shooting at paper targets and would be very similar to the discussion on shooting the deer that was standing in the field quartered to you.

Anybody familiar with this trainer, I tried a quick search and checked Rob's and Outdoor TV's websites but can't find anything on that segment. I may be way off on the name.

Yes, and I think that you must be referring to Louis Awerbuck.....extremely competent, South African...he uses modified "Ivans" 3-D's to train with..... :?

Yes that's him, I wanted to write down his name, but my Rite in the Rain pen and note pad was in my Maxpedition Versi pac bug out bag and didn't think I could access it from the safe room in time to record his name so I resorted to memorizing it by assigning a number to each letter of his name, but I think I need a little more work on that. :?

In the segment the class was on the firing line shooting at the paper targets mounted as mentioned above and then he had each student shoot at his Mirage Target System shown on his website. http://www.yfainc.com/index.html

Next time deploy your Emerson QC7 tactical folder and make a small incision in your finger to draw blood, then write the name backwards on your forehead so that it will show up the correct way when you look into your survival mirror.

Just trying to help.

That is a wonderful idea, but I don't think I could have wrote his whole name on my forehead.

I'm amazed hammAR figured it out.

Has anybody trained with him?

I read his stuff regularly, but I'm getting old and can't remember either--is it in American Rifleman or SWAT magazine? I think the latter (which, by the way, I have found to be an expensive but pretty decent magazine). He definitely knows his stuff.

Latest S.W.A.T. Magazine TV Teaser

S.W.A.T. Magazine TV brings you an inside look at the training industry by taking you behind the scenes of law enforcement and military training, as well as looking at some of the best training available in the private sector. Rob Pincus hosts this action packed and informative series, spending time with a different instructor each week. Best of all, the training you'll see is broken down in a way that emphasizes the most important aspects for you to learn in your preparation for home or self defense. S.W.A.T. Magazine TV will also feature in-depth instructor profiles so that you get to know the men and women behind the concepts in a way that you never have before. Useful product insight and Brent Wheat's "Street Smarts" segment will round out the most progressive 30 minutes of training-oriented programming on television.

S.W.A.T. Episode 1 - December 30, 2009

Host Rob Pincus observes as Louis Awerbuck teaches students how to deal with three dimensional targets. Next, Rob heads to southern Indiana to get a close-up look at K-9 training and capabilities. Brent Wheat discusses Learning from Failure in his Street Smarts segment, and you'll learn a little about Hornady "For Personal Defense" ammunition.

S.W.A.T. Episode 2 - January 6, 2010

James Yeager teaches students in his High Risk Operator course how to move from a disabled vehicle and establish a defensible position, and Rob Pincus visits the Yorktown Naval Weapons Station to learn about the mission of Maritime Expeditionary Security Squadron Two. We'll also take a close look at LaserLyte's new Rear Sight Laser, and Brent Wheat reminds us not to take ourselves too seriously.

S.W.A.T. Episode 3 - January 13, 2010

Rob Pincus joins the Boone County Indiana Multi-Jurisdictional SWAT Team for a training session and gets some insight from Lead Instructor Brian Stevenson on how their techniques apply to movement during home defense. Brent Wheat gives us the Street Smarts take on Situational Awareness. Then, we'll spend some time at US Training center with Josh Jackson of LMS Defense discussing flashlight techniques with a long gun.
