Interesting. I had no idea. According to the WI DNR, however, these are not the same type of pigs as are found in TX. If I were really interested, I'd start by sending an email to one of the addresses on this page. http://www.dnr.state.wi.us/org/land/wil ... ok/Pig.htm

Only if you don't mind donating that pickup and gun, and maybe some of your free time to the local authorities :)

I've read about people hog hunting several ways. Stand hunting, stalking/driving on foot, with dogs, on horseback, etc.

Feral hogs can be fairly difficult prey to hunt, and they can cover ground awfully quick. Something I'd really like to do sooner than later.

I was obviously joking, but this is actually legal in the case of varmints (which feral pigs are classified as) on your own property in some states!

Cover ground quick or hunt hogs? ;)

Yea, i'm gonna keep looking for info on this. I think it would be a great time if one could set it up.

I know you were joking, in my own lame attempt at humor I was continuing on with the joke. Anyway, I didn't know you were allowed to hunt anything out of a moving vehicle. "Handicapped hunters" (I know there is probably a more PC term for it... but you get the point) I think are sometimes allowed to hunt out of vehicles in certain cases. I have also read books where guys set up their shooting bench in the back of a stationary pickup, for varmint hunting. On the other hand I guess I've heard of "helicopter hunts" where some say its on the move, and others say its just to transport you to the area, and you go on foot from there.

Lastly, I used to be able to cover ground quick, then I met and got engaged to a wonderful cook. So of the two, I'd pick hunting hogs. Then I can slap some pork on the grill, with my wonderful cook, and everyone is happy.

:) I have dreams about burying one of these hogs in the ground covered in coals Luau style! (Important to field dress first  )

I've done it with regular pig and the results are EPIC.

Yep. My main concern on feral hogs is how will the one I shoot compare to the ones I used to raise? I expect that I have been spoiled when it comes to the best of the best pork available. Diet, lifestyle, stress factors, how they are killed, etc. all can affect meat quality. Some days I think I'd enjoy my food more if I hadn't taken as many animal science classes.

But, if they are even half as good, it'd be worth it.

Of the Russian strain farm raised while living in the UP they are way leaner then domestic hog if I had the choice of eating it would be domestic, Having said that I still want to get to Tx doesnt make sense as we used to sell to a shooting preserve out of Tn.
Looking at the Wi map in the Green Bay area I knew a guy over in that area that bought breeding stock from us I wonder what he did with them after getting divorced and loseing his place

My guess, all the meat would go into sausage. Highly seasoned sausage. But then, it's more about the hunt than the meat. And, I got over the meat science classes a long time ago. :D

Yep. One way or another it would be good eating. If I wanted purely just the meat, I'd call up a friend, go visit and buy/shoot a domestic market hog no doubt.

These look like some fun hunts though, even with a slight (sometimes not so slight) risk of the hog coming after you and making you wish you were somewhere else. Wouldn't mind hunting with a buddy or two in some of those cases.

I'm sure its gonna be more gamey than a domestic, but I have a feeling cooking it in a pit for 24 hours is gonna make ANYTHING taste good.

Hell, thats half the reason i'm so excited! :D I imagine running around with a marlin or slugged shotgun slinged on my shoulder with my .45 on my hip. Like a 2 gun shoot! The long gun for the start and the 45 for when they start to blitz! (i'd definitely go with a buddy though, if I slip and get knocked out I could get EATEN!)
