Subject: Please call your Minnesota House Representative NOW
Sorry for the lateness of this; I only heard about this hours ago.
In about fifteen minutes, Tony Cornish's committee is meeting to hear the "delete all" amendment to HR 161. I'm just outside the hearing room right now.
It's a good bill, and a great amendment. Trust me, please.
What it would do is get rid of all of the duplicative, expensive, and unnecessary state background checks for gun purchases, making it unnecessary to go down to your local PD every year and get a "purchase permit." Whatever value background checks have -- I'm skeptical, but . . . -- would remain: Federal law requires a NICS check, and that wouldn't change.
What would change? The State of Minnesota would no longer be wasting huge piles of money every year, duplicating the Federal checks. In this time of tight budgets, why waste money on things that the Feds are going to do anyway?
That question answers itself.
So: please call your Minnesota House Reps, please, and tell them that you want HF 161 pass . . .
. . . and, if you would, tell 'em Joel sent you. Email them, too, please, and CC me at joelr@twincitiescarry.com .
I don't often ask you to pick up the phones and send out emails, but I'm asking now.
Please.
More soon.

I have nothing further to add, as I know nothing about the subject. This is all FYI.
