That's remarkably similar to mine ... 'sept mine's a fluted 18in 1/9 ... chambered in .223 ... camo, knurled, vented aluminum handguard ... and I put in a two-stage Geissele (not as nice as a JP, but I don't need to replace it with one). I may have saved $100 - $200 off that Larue, as well.

http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/manufacturers_id/3/products_id/52856 ... if ya can get it fer that price, vs. the Larue, that leaves $500 to spend on a nice trigger! Image

I ain't crazy 'bout the collapsible stock it came with ... it's camo ... that's 'bout all I like 'bout it. I might put a CTR on it, at some point. They got a A2-stock model, too.

or spend that $500 on ammo and some shooting time.

I'd like a new AR this year - the Larue is on my list.. I really like the Noveskes though...

I wonder how much it will cost you to get the barrel properly cut for a screw-on flash hider or comp? Not having one is a non-starter for me with the Remmy.

That Larue is sexy, I'm really liking that lightweight profile stainless match barrel.

Most lightweight profile barrels out there are either Chrome Moly (nothing wrong with that, but doesn't have the lifespan of stainless) or hard chrome (not as accurate as stainless).

Ted Nugent doesn't use a flash hider. Not sure how a hunting gun benefits with a flash hider. How come my lever action 45/70 doesn't have one? It must need one. :wack: I have found that coyotes don't care about them, or can't notice.

I know that an AR15 is modular, and that there are options available, but not every one needs to look like it came out of a seal team weapons case.

That wasn't an issue fer me when I got it ... more of a "fun" gun ... had no clue how much I'd love it, 'til I got a nice trigger in it. When I started thinkin' more 'bout 3-gun, I thought 'bout gettin' it threaded ... don't recall exactly, now ... I'd guess $100 'er so, to do that ... ultimately, I ended up jest gettin' 'nother AR fer that sorta stuff. Shoulda never traded away my original 3-gun AR to pay fer the Remington! :hammer:

... which, brings up a good point fer the OP ... maybe one lower, and two uppers ... one lightweight fer huntin', 'nother fer bench/3-gun?

... 'course, then when ya see them $50 stripped lowers, it makes it awfully tough to not end up with two complete rifles, anyhow. Image

EDIT: this has come up 'fore, actually ... and at that time, and now, I'm of the opinion that if Remington were to offer that upper, alone, with a threaded muzzle, fer $500 - $600, they'd sell more 'n a few of 'em ... no less 'n two more, fer myself

IMO the biggest benefit to a flash hider is crown protection, unless you shoot at night (and then it's biggest benefit is the way it reduces the muzzle signature to the shooter, helping to preserve your night eyes.

An A2 flash suppressor is also closed on the bottom. So you would not get a dust cloud if you are shooting prone and close to the ground.

Also you can do a pretty kicking camo job yourself for about 15 bucks, Three cans of Krylon Camo paint and an onion bag or other mesh sack will give you a wicked snake skin pattern.

I think the guy could have stood to pick two top coat colors instead of just one.

haha i wouldn't paint mine.. i would feel like i was doing bad or defacing my gun if i spray painted it.

You know I saw the ad for the $50 lowers and everyone is drooling and going AHHH... well would I be better off getting in on that deal.. and just finding a good 2 stage trigger and stock for it.. or just getting a complete lower..

How mechanically inclined are you?

You'll save about$ 75-100 if you put things together on your own.

And you'll know your rifle better.
