Every base AR I have looked at has been in the $1500-1800 range.

I guess I would like to see the evidence of that which you claim.


My stock 308 "Classic" from DPMS was $950.

we can play that game all night.

I can go to Cabela's and show the AR is more than the M1A.

I can show the same on gunbroker as well.

Shop around, they are pretty well priced similar in value.

If you look at average store prices for stock versions of the guns (not bid sites, not used, not tricked out), the M1a will always outprice the stock 308 or ar10. That's just how it is. Base AR style 308's are cheaper to manufacture, period.

An easy way to see this is to go to http://www.gunsamerica.com and compare a search for m1a to a search for lr 308. The only m1a I could find for under 1000 was made in china.

:lol: You are comparing a cadallac tricked out platform to a m1a! Why not be fair and compare it to the supermatch M1a at over 3K!

Even buying a stock 308 straight from the manufacture is cheaper than it's counter part from springfield (linked directly from springfield armory)

Sounds like HammAR was right about this being the same as the 1911 vs Glock stuff. After reading this stuff and doing more research, I think I am going to hold off on this. I have convinced myself that an M1A is not the right direction for me but I am also not convinced that a reliable and affordable AR based 308 is available either. On top of this a few of you have rightly questioned my need for this so I am going to wait and think about this some more. I will pick up a bolt action 308 and will think about an AR15 for High Power.
