Fleet Farm Handguns?

Discussion of handguns

Owatonna has a decent selection with staff saying more are on the way. I am kinda upset about the staff knowledge with handguns though. I ended up giving my opinion to a customer who was obviously searching for good advice about a handgun for him and his wife. I'm sure its all new for the staff too so hopefully their knowledge of handguns grows with their inventory.

Fleet Farm at Osseo has handguns.....prices appear competitive and ammo prices seem in line. Person at counter appears to know his product.

The guy at Fleet Farm in Hudson told me he wasn't familiar with the AR-15's at all before Huldra came. Told me they had to take training on the new products and to me, seemed very knowledgable on them. Handguns and the AR's.

I suppose you could be in the gun department, looking for help, and someone from another department could be in the area and offer to help, or the right guy could be sick. Either way I can see at some point not getting a knowldegable person helping you, but for the most part, it seems to me they know their stuff.

I guess I feel that if a service is offered it should be handled properly. I'm no expert but when the counter person heard a couple of my responses to the customer he kinda shut up and stood back to watch. Maybe he really did handle it properly then? I don't think he liked hearing me tell the customer to try before he purchased. Although I did say that I love Fleet Farm and their prices were in line with other retailers.

I'm in the computer tech support business. I don't deal with end users, I deal with IT professionals - some of whom know their stuff, and some who are definitely overpaid. I also teach martial arts in my spare time as a community service. In both roles, I can say that it takes guts to let someone else be the expert when they're expecting you to be the expert.

You have to take your ego completely out of the picture and have confidence in your own abilities to avoid becoming defensive. I'm totally okay with telling a customer that we're always learning and I'm not perfect - if they know something that I don't, I'm happy for them.

I have to give the FF sales rep credit for that. What's good for the customer is good for the store, and they probably recognized that.

What is with the $13 fee for background check? Was in the Husdon FF last night and saw this new sign, $13 added to the cost of any handgun for background check? Anybody see this in a MN one? There prices on the handguns are inline with the typical retailers but not great like some of their longgun pices can be, but add the 13 on it and... Maybe it is just a WI thing?

Was just at my Hudson FF yesterday and my friend who works at the gun counter told me they're adding a whole other handgun cabinet and a bunch more handguns in the next few weeks. Possibly more long guns also!

Yay Fleet Farm!

BTW on the post previous to this one.... Wisconsin FFLs are required to call a a special place for handgun sales, not the NICS system, for background checks on handguns. It's called the Handgun Hotline and is just a different version of background check for Wisconsin HG sales only. It costs the FFL 13.00 so that's what that fee is for. Looks like MN hasn't come to that yet.

Fleet Farm in Baxter (home store) has handguns. Glock, Tarus, ,Ruger, a couple S&Ws (priced less than GM across the highway)! I talked to the owners last week and was told they are adding several more lines, and a lot more gun stuff by this fall. They are also opening an indoor shooting range directly south of the Baxter store in the old Paul Bunyan bowling alley building. Should be ready to shoot by fall also. :D

Arrange some knock down targets and you could have firearm bowling leagues.

I was also told that FF will be be expanding their inventory. Also apparently they have partnered up with a PTC course and will be holding monthly classes (at least the Lakeville location has). So far I have purchased my G22, G23, and Sig mousquito at the Lakeville location. The Glocks both while they were on sale for $549, but even so their regular prices are cheaper than Gander, Cabelas, and J&S custom. They can order guns from their distributor, but I really wouldn't expect them to come through with the order. I tried to order a S&W 686 and a Sig P238 and their distributor was out of stock on all models of both firearms.

It's true Paul Bunyan Bowl is closed but the Mills Indoor Shooting Center is on the way. Indoor Rifle, Pistol, and Archery plus a retail area of specialized gear, not just the same lines as Fleet Farm. We are really excited about this facility, it will offer a lot for us and our customers. We have a lot planned for this place and we would love as many people to come when it opens. There will be leagues, competitions, events, training, all sorts of stuff. We are trying to add new lines and models but as noted sometimes the distributors can't keep up. Also I am guessing this will be another record year in the industry with a lot of sales already this year. Thanks for positive comments guys, any questions don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks,
Dave
