Not a lot of details, but sounds like this had one of the better possible outcomes.

Why is a 15 year old in the 8th grade?

Spending 2 or 3 of the toughest years of his life?

He had an airsoft/pellet type gun.

Have you seen some of the models that have come out in recent years?
Some don't have the red/orange tip and the only way to tell is the seam or diameter at the end of the barrel.
An officer is not going to wait for another second warning if a realistic gun starts coming up or over.
The responding officer will normally believe a corporate security contact that calls in with guy waving gun.

I should rephrase my statement.

"He had an airsoft/pellet type gun -- and was STUPID enough to a) bring it to school b) threaten someone with it and c) NOT drop it when told to by law-enforcement"

Sorry...

I do not know if it was a stock image or an actual photo of the pellet gun in question, but a different article showed one of those pellet guns w/out the colored tip.

Was at Cabela's yesterday, and there are several without the orange tip. I thought there was a law about requiring the orange tip for this very reason? Now you have a L.E. officer(s) that will have to live with shooting this kid for the rest of their lives (even though it appears very justified). That's a hell I'd never want to endure.

Note to self: Orange fingernail polish will buy you time when in a gunfight with the police.
Note to self: When committing suicide by cop, be sure to use black fingernail polish on the airsoft.

From what I understand, airsoft guns powered by spring piston actions require the orange tips, and CO2-powered ones do not.

I was actually wanting to know if they would prosecute the person who provided him with the firearm. It must really suck to shoot a kid with a fake gun, or any suicide by cop sort of incident. :(
