of course he'd listen to the police chiefs, they're the ones that helped get him elected along with the union bosses.

That written response says it all. Governor Goofy will not sign this bill, he will follow the recommendation of the left wing LEO community, from the Attorneys, to the Police Chiefs to the Rank and File. Thank you LEO who ever you are!

I'm not encouraged by this.

After reading this I sent the following e-mail to the governor's office.

Governor Dayton,
I want to encourage you to sign HF1467. I understand that your office is receiving information from both sides and that making such an important decision can be hard. I would like to address one issue that is coming from those who are against the passage of the bill. The issue I have heard is that they believe this bill gives citizens greater authority to shoot than is currently possessed by police officers. I would say that is not the case. The authority to shoot is the same for both. It is the perception of great bodily harm or death. A case in point from Golden Valley, this past September. The Golden Valley Police description is posted below, in full:

At approximately 1:03 pm Sept 22, the police officer attempted to stop a vehicle on westbound I-394 near Hwy 169. The driver of the vehicle eventually pulled over to the side of I-394 near Hopkins Crossroad. The lone occupant of the vehicle, an adult female, was in possession of a handgun and was subsequently fatally shot by the officer. The officer did not sustain any injuries.
I am not trying to second guess the officer. I am sure he felt he was in danger or he would not have fired.

In other police shootings where the assailant was shot by police, the statement is always the same. They were in fear for their lives. A quote from the Star Tribune July 12 2008-At first Rodriguez charged the officers in the darkened St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Cemetery. But then he stopped as they ordered him to drop the sword, Rogers said.

When he threatened to kill them and started forward again, Sgt. James Galland fired several times and Rodriguez fell to the ground.

"They felt their lives were in danger," Rogers said. "He refused their commands."

My point is that this law does not give citizens greater leeway than Law Enforcement Officer. What it does do is give citizens the right to protect themselves anywhere they can rightfully be when they feel they are in fear of great bodily harm or death. Once again I would urge you to sign the bill.

This is what I sent to all who support and voted for the bill. I have received numerous responses and praise. A very similar message was sent to the governor.

My fellow Minnesotan,

Thank you for choosing to support HR 1467. I'm an Air National Guardsmen and have deployed five times since October 2001. I feel safe in my home and everywhere I travel as I chose never to put myself in harm’s way. I have a MN Permit to Carry and occasionally exercise this privilege. I choose not to hunt but enjoy target shooting and sharing my passion for firearms with friends and family.

It is disheartening to think how a criminal can knowing cause harm to me or my family yet given their choice to make me an unwilling participant, the same criminal currently has legal protection.

I never want to take a life and pray to God I will never find myself in such a situation. The passing of HR 1467 will not change how I would react if facing a life or death situation. What your support potentially provides me is the peace of mind that my life will have a chance of returning to normal should I ever be forced to deal with a criminal trying to kill me.

Again, thank you for your support.

It will never come up! Not enough to start!

BTW, I would like to thank all of you that voted for the third party candidate Tom Horner.

At a minimum I hope at least reciprocity and not being able to take your guns goes through. I think we will need a new Mayor to get anything else accomplished. We can show him how we feel come election time, which depending on his decision could get him re-elected or not.

It's kind of all or nothing. He can't sign some parts and veto others.

I understand, but he could say what he supports and have it run through the process eliminating what he doesn't agree with - right? That would be better than losing all of it as a whole. That would at least show he has some support of the citizens he's supposed to be representing.

I hope it's a non issue and he just does what he should - and signs his name on it.

As long as its passed through "the People's" branch he really shouldn't be playing these games. He needs to just sign the damn thing and stop playing Emperor.

My email this afternoon.

Dear Governor Dayton,

I am writing to you to urge you to sign the Defense of Dwelling and Person Act HF1467.

As a person that has never owned a gun, I was very concerned when the gun carry law was originally signed in to our law in our great state. However we all discovered that the prediction of “blood running in our streets” was simply untrue.

The criminals will always have guns and use them with out regard for anyone that may be in their way. To deny a law abiding citizen the right to stand there ground and defend them self’s against a criminal threatening them with bodily harm is just plan wrong.

Dangers to our brave law enforcement officials will not change because the criminals will continue to use their guns. Law abiding citizen on the other hand only use a weapon as a last resort.

You talk about building the peoples stadium for a professional sports team. The least that you can do is respect the overwhelming representation of the people of Minnesota though the house and senate and sign the legislation that has been sent to you.

Sincerely,
TomS

So what is the date by which Dayton must veto or sign. I know it is 3 days. But is it 3 calendar days (Saturday) or 3 business days(Monday)?
