You probably already know. But just in case . There are lots of people who will pay top dollar for the banned steel core ammo.
Ak guys are always looking for that stuff. I know guys who are sitting on it for the SHTF scenarios
I would sell it and buy more current ammo for plinking fun.

You can shoot it at Oakdale Gun Club once they open to the public in June!
Nothing to see here. Continue swimming.

If it's a tin of 7.62x54R the targets can handle it no problem. Some of the testing is destructive to see what they can handle. Other times it is just to see how a new stand or target works and take some video of it.

Back when IHMSA was popular, I folded a bunch of chickens after hitting them with a 320 grain cast slug out of my 444Marlin re-chambered T/C pistol. Owner of range hated me. He had to beat them back flat with a sledge-hammer.

Okay I looked it up; you're talking about the import ban back in the 90s. For a second I thought domestic steel core ammo was banned recently or something!

With the introduction of 7.62x39 cambered AK pistols, the commercial import or sale of steel core 7.62x39 was outlawed, as it is now considered a "pistol" caliber, and the construction of the steel core bullets apparently meets the definition of "armor piercing", and there's some rule about AP pistol bullets.

One of the reasons why you haven't seen AK-74 pattern pistols, no one wants to screw up the supply of steel core surplus 5.45.
