I'd highly recommend a quality holster that covers the trigger guard completely.

My current holster is A galco that covers everything, it's outside the waistband. My next holster will be a crossbreed ITWB.

That's been a pretty good gun for me, but when I went looking for a double-stack carry gun, I bit the bullet after years of being anti-Glock and bought a Gen 3 Glock 19. I was hoping that by getting a Gen 3 I could avoid the well-documented ejection/extraction issues but I didn't. I shoot that gun really well and it fits my hand well, but the random ejection patterns, especially the recurrent brass-to-the-face issue, is really annoying. Based on my experience and from what I read on GlockTalk and M4Carbine, I couldn't recommend a Glock to anyone without that signifcant warning.

I had an older G17 that did that when I first got it. I replaced all the springs, one at a time, to see what the effect was. What cured the problem was the recoil spring. Less than $20 too :-)

I took your advice and bought a 15# and a 17# Wolff spring and guide rod to try replacing the 18# spring the gun comes with. I shot a 300 round pistol course with the 17# spring. Sadly, not only did I end up with more brass in my shirt pocket than ever, I also had a several stovepipes. I'm going back to the 18# spring and will await user experience on Randy Lee's new "miracle extractor" when it comes out, supposedly this fall.

Hmac what serial prefix is your gen 3. Is it M or later? Have you called Glock? I know some later gen 3s they have replaced the ejectors with the new upgraded ejectors.

Also have you tried hotter and heavier ammo?

I can't recall the serial number, but it was test-fired in April of 2012 according to the fired casing that came with it. From what I have read, the problem with the recent Gen 3's appears to be the extractor rather than the ejector. This issue is causing quite the hubbub on some of the firearms forums and there is quite a bit of teeth-gnashing over MIM's and DIPs and a variety of other configurations of the extractor. Randy Lee at Apex Tactical has kind of become the champion of the issue and has summarized his take on the problem in a dissertation on M4Carbine http://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=92447 . Bottom line is that it appears that the solution to erratic ejection in the later Gen 3's is maybe a re-designed extractor, and perhaps lowering the ejector port, or some combination thereof. While I find the ejection issue to be annoying, I don't consider it a deal-breaker. The gun shoots well, and with the 18# recoil spring has been completely reliable in its lack of FTE.

I haven't tried hotter ammo, only 115gr PMC Bronze. That's what I shoot, and while I agree that trying the hotter ammo might be interesting, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect this handgun to perform acceptably with standard commerical ammo. Both of my other 9mm's do. I realize that I could send it to Glock and that they'd do something to it, but the results of others that have done so have been mixed and apparently not universally satisfactory.

I keep looking at the thread on M4C and am waiting for the flurry of posts that indicate that Randy Lee has solved the problem with some piece of hardware or another, if and whenever that occurs. In the meantime, I continue to carry and shoot the G19 despite this little ejection idiosyncracy.

Glocks are nice pistols to be sure. I'm just not a huge fan of the grips. Then again I also haven't shot the Gen4's yet either so maybe that's different now. (I'm also more of a hammer fired guy, but that's pure preference.)

Good tip w/the XD pin issue though. I got a couple of buddies who are pretty big fans, I'll have to let them know about that.
