this guy is a real genius, ya know? seriously people. what he did was brandishing a firearm, and it really was 2nd Degree Assault with a Firearm. i think the guy also truly believed that what he was doing was the right thing to do!

however, let's get back to Lunchbox's previous question, was it an AK-47 or was it something else? if the charges were specific enough to claim that he drew an AK-47 and it was an AK-74, would he be acquitted?
saying that guns kill people is like saying that spoons made Rosie O'Donnell fat.

Does this part bother anyone else? Like it makes a huge impact on the severity of what he did... It's like saying the drunk driver was in a car, but not any car, a Caprice Classic.

I think we need thicker skin than that.

While technically a gun is a gun, different weapons give you a different response when they are pointed at you. And it's much more unusual than just a handgun.

Douglas Adams made a particular witty, brilliant comment about the looks of guns that would apply here.

I think what you're looking for is:

"The designer of the gun had clearly not been instructed to beat about the bush. 'Make it evil,' he'd been told. 'Make it totally clear that this gun has a right end and a wrong end. Make it totally clear to anyone standing at the wrong end that things are going badly for them. If that means sticking all sort of spikes and prongs and blackened bits all over it then so be it. This is not a gun for hanging over the fireplace or sticking in the umbrella stand, it is a gun for going out and making people miserable with."

Gotta love that Adams!

I have it from a reliable source that it was an SKS.

So it was an "AK-47", figured they way everything gets reported as one. Still no less a deplorable action.

An SKS? Good god, why do the crazies also have to be poor instead of just plain crazy? No wonder he was so desperate to protect his "food cache"! ;-)
