Mag Vault

Just came across this offering by Gun Vault. Seems like a good idea if you want quicker access to you AR rather than it living in a safe, thoughts?

I think the safe would still be faster, depending on the location of your safe. No fumbling around for a mag to insert if it's already loaded in the safe.

I suspect this might offer a false sense of safety as it appears possible to fire a chambered rd with this thing locked in place.
And when you really need it, the key will be somewhere else.

It blocks the bolt back - no way to fire a round, even if you pulled the upper first.

Trigger Lock: round in chamber, magazine in magazine well, bolt forward, use key to remove trigger lock, weapon is ready to use.

Mag Vault: round in chamber, no magazine in magazine well, use key to remove device, release bolt catch, insert magazine, weapon is ready to use.

This is a bit more expensive, but I think it is a better product and it secures the weapon.

If they'd make that double sided, it would be reversable and more desireable.

Any gun safe or lock thst uses a wafer lock makes me cringe as they typically are cheap and take seconds to pick. That aside for home defense I'd much rather store it in condition 1. Sentry makes a pretty neat safe for storing a rifle or shotgun and a handgun for just that purpose.

I have seen that safe and I like it a lot! The OP did mention he wanted something other than a safe.

I addition I have never heard of a burglar picking a lock to gain access to anything. Lets be honest, if you are dealing with a burglar that can pick locks anything less that a big safe with a combo lock isn't going to be secure.

Interesting concept, $400 is kinda steep for something that size. I still need to get a safe in general, I'd probably be better off spending few hundred more for a larger safe.

Are you looking for theft prevention or kiddo prevention?

Pete was a fan of putting guns on the inside wall above closet doors. If you didn't know it was there, not many people would ever notice it. A simple hanger could be built up there and then you could use a traditional cable gun lock lagged to a stud with two eye bolts (to prevent turning it out).

Theft, no kids. I have a couple handguns an AR and a shotgun. No safe yet, they're just placed in inconspicuous places at the moment. Buying a safe on a budget is tough.
