the letter to MY representative.
Hello Rep Slocum,
I just finished reviewing HF 241, and being a member of the DFL party,
as well as being the legal owner of a modern sporting rifle for use
up north, I am appalled that my representative not only supports this
drastic legislation, but is also an author.
I do believe that we need to keep firearms out of the hands of people
that should not have them (felons, the mentally ill, etc) and keep
them away from schools, but I also think its going just too far to
limit firearms for the upstanding citizens of Minnesota as well.
One of the many parts of this bill I am strongly against is law enforcement
officers coming in to my house, and seeing how I store my firearms.
This is on top of having (and paying for) background checks every
year, and registering my firearms. Having a police officer come
in to my house unless I call him for help is pushing my boundaries
in relation to the 4th amendment.
The proposed legislation is over-reaching, in regards to the 2nd
and 4th amendments, and only further pushes people that should
not have modern sporting rifles, or any firearm for that matter
to get them, as they will not want to jump through all the hoops.
The past events, and evidence has shown that most of the people
that do bad things with guns, should have not had them in the
first place. Putting more restrictions in place is not going to
solve the problem, but giving the law enforcement community the
tools to enforce the current laws will help solve the problem.
This is why I am in favor of H.F. 240 and H.F. 238
I want to also state my strong opposition to HF241, HF242, and HF243
and this registered democrat may very well be voting republican
in the next statewide election.
Thanks,
