the letter to MY representative.

Hello Rep Slocum,
I just finished reviewing HF 241, and being a member of the DFL party,
as well as being the legal owner of a modern sporting rifle for use
up north, I am appalled that my representative not only supports this
drastic legislation, but is also an author.

I do believe that we need to keep firearms out of the hands of people
that should not have them (felons, the mentally ill, etc) and keep
them away from schools, but I also think its going just too far to
limit firearms for the upstanding citizens of Minnesota as well.

One of the many parts of this bill I am strongly against is law enforcement
officers coming in to my house, and seeing how I store my firearms.
This is on top of having (and paying for) background checks every
year, and registering my firearms. Having a police officer come
in to my house unless I call him for help is pushing my boundaries
in relation to the 4th amendment.

The proposed legislation is over-reaching, in regards to the 2nd
and 4th amendments, and only further pushes people that should
not have modern sporting rifles, or any firearm for that matter
to get them, as they will not want to jump through all the hoops.

The past events, and evidence has shown that most of the people
that do bad things with guns, should have not had them in the
first place. Putting more restrictions in place is not going to
solve the problem, but giving the law enforcement community the
tools to enforce the current laws will help solve the problem.
This is why I am in favor of H.F. 240 and H.F. 238

I want to also state my strong opposition to HF241, HF242, and HF243
and this registered democrat may very well be voting republican
in the next statewide election.

Thanks,

Thanks for the email. I want you
to know that I support our 2nd Amendment
rights and will stand in defense of them.
I am also endorsed by the NRA and I
am also a firearms owner. I do not support
any further restrictions to firearms.
Supporters who are interested in attending the
hearings are meeting in Tues Feb 5th in room 400S of the

Defines "Assault Weapon" as ANY:

Semi-automatic that has the capacity to accept a detachable magazine and has one or more of the following:
a rifle or shotgun with a pistol grip or thumbhole stock,
any feature capable of functioning as a protruding grip that can be held by the nontrigger hand,
a folding or telescoping stock,
or a shroud attached to the barrel or that partially or completely encircles the barre.
That has the capacity to accept more than SEVEN rounds of ammunition.

Prohibits the ebove mentioned "Assault Weapons"
No grandfathering...

Any person who, on February 1, 2013, legally owns or is in possession of an assault weapon has until September 1, 2013, to do any of the following without being subject to prosecution under Minnesota Statutes, section 624.7133:
(1) remove the weapon from the state;
(2) surrender the weapon to a law enforcement agency for destruction;
(3) render the weapon permanently inoperable; or
(4) if eligible, register the weapon as provided in Minnesota Statutes, section 624.7133, subdivision 5.

Remington 740/742/4/7400/750 10-round magazine - available through Brownell's

If I'm interpreting the above correctly, that could potentially make every Remington 740/742/4/7400/750 made illegal in Minnesota. Deer hunters are going to LOVE this one.

THAT is a great point! Are there any other modern hunting rifles like that? I need to get a few FUDS on board, but they don't like EBR
I also want to point that out in my letters to Representatives. Hunting rifles will be affected.

I wrote an email to all of the committee members. I am going to make as many calls as I can on lunch break.

They won't even realize it until their firearm is rendered illegal.

I can't even tell you how many "hunters" I encounter that can't imagine why I need to own an AR. They support bans and restrictions because they think they are safe.
