I purchased an XDm from the Carry Depot and took it out for its first shots today. Here are some initial observations:
1. the case is superb...really nice....
2. the accessories are nice (2 mags, double mag pouch/holster, decently nice paddle holster)
3, the gun is big...Glock 22 sized; assuming it is to compete in that market, then some comparisons are in order: Here are some specs...the G22 is listed first/then the XDm:
unloaded weight = 22.9 / 32
capacity = 15/16
height = 5.43 / 5.6
barrell length = 4.49 / 4.5
4. ambi mag release; striker condition indicator; loaded chamber indicator
5. trigger is much more "Glock-like" than other XD models; quicker shorter reset, crisper trigger pull; the XDm specs say about 5.5-7#, but it seemed lighter
6. very accurate (with my olde eyze I had no problems with a 1" group from 10 feet; 2" from 20 feet; from 35 yards (which for my eyes is just too hard) in a normal 2-handed grip (Isosceles stance) I could keep in the full size silhouette, but nothing to brag about.)
7. very soft shooting
8. the slide racks very easily....a very controllable gun for those that might struggle with some other guns and the strength/leverage needed to rack the silde
9. 100 rounds fired...no problems
10. interchangable backstraps (I shot with the default size)
I was struck by the ease of shooting and the accuracy. Another nice feature is that you can disassemble without pulling the trigger!
If I were in the market for an XD, I would be inclined to wait for the XDm9 or the XDm45 ...unless you wanted the XDm40.
16 rounds of .40 in an easy to shoot and accurate package, with decent accessories. Everything leads one to a purchase...IF...the size is acceptable for them. (Did I mention it is a big gun!)
