$$$OVER PRICED BLACK RIFLES$$$

Postby GURR on Fri Mar 01, 2013 10:23 am

WOW  When is this price gouging ammo hoarding paranoia going to end!?! I Know people can make some profit on their "black rifles". But charging $1k & more on some is CRAZY :!: :!:

Am I over reacting here :?:

It'll stop when nobody will pay that money to get the product in question.

Until that stops, the price increase is here to stay.

Supply and demand.

AR's going for $1,000 and up is normal, unless you're after a budget build or an inexpensive optics ready carbine. Even dealer cost on basic AR's before the panic was $8-$900.

Prices on gunbroker seem to be calming a bit, I think the end is somewhat near.

Likely because credit cards are getting max'd out and panic hoarders can't afford to buy anything more.

I'll agree the end is near when ammunition can start being found in stores.

Some are charging up to $1000 over retail (which is usually too much) for them.........

How much is too much? That's always in the eye of the buyer. If someone pays a price they are willing to pay for something that makes them happy it's not gouging, it's a free market economy at work. I'm not happy about paying more than I did a couple months ago for ammo either, but it is what it is for now. I look forward to cheap prices when the market is flooded with stuff people decide they don't want to keep after all of these ridiculous bills fall on their face for at the state and federal level.

I spent close to a grand on my rifle and I pieced it together bit by bit.

I'm very proud of it and if I had to sell it I have to include my labor cost into the price.

High quality parts are expensive.. Everything except a milspec lower matters..

It would be even pricier if I wanted a sweet billet lower.

Yea, appears people are still paying $1,000 over retail for Colts. Not gonna lie, if I had 10 Colt's in my inventory they'd be going on GB for $2,000.00.

If you watch auctions on GunBroker that are comparably priced to others, but do not have the pay by CC option, they usually do not have any bids.

Let's put it this way I spent 500 bucks for my complete LE6920 upper off m4carbine.

I have people offering me complete rifles plus cash for it.

If I did want to sell it I could list it for a $1000 with 200 Rounds down the pipe and someone would buy it. But I guess people don't realize some Walmart do get a steady stock of them and sell them for around that same price.

I will probably be listing my Daniel Defense soon and be looking for another top tier AR. I guess I should sell it for $1000 less to avoid being labeled a profeteer. And I will be glad to if someone outraged by "gouging" will sell me his BCM, Noveske, Knights for a thousand under market value first. I will then sell my DD to some appreciative third party of course, else it woud just be a swap and no altruistic virtue would accrue to said outraged person.

I'm thinking of trading it for a Brand new m&p 15-22 plus cash and a few mags. In my mind it would be more of a full time plinker I can abuse and have my other rifle for "real purposes"

I'm still ahead on that one as I have very little interest in taking advantage of anyone.

And the Walmart in Eau Claire had one when I was there a few weeks ago. Forgot the price but I would have had very little to now issue of buying right there but the other half didn't let me as she didn't think it was worth it to make a profit off of. She was probably right I probably wouldn't have sold it anyways and kept it. But I had to pass on it and let someone else enjoy the awesomeness of a Colt Carbine

Guns are not a "necessity" item. You don't "need" an EBR to live. But if you want an EBR and ammo to go with it, and both are hard to find and you didn't stock up ahead of time, guess what? Prices will be higher because of scarcity and demand. If you bought gold years ago and the price of gold quadrupled, would you sell it for what you bought it at? No.

On the other hand, you DO need water to live, and someone charging $20 a bottle for water during a disaster IS price gouging on the backs of desperate people.

If I wanted to sell 5.56 ammo right now, I wouldn't part with it for the .30 per round I paid, because it would cost 2 or 3 times as much for me to replace that later if it could even be found.
