firstly (and you'll learn this if you keep repeating CCW) in Minnesota we get Permits To Carry, not Concealed Weapons Permits, or Concealed Carry License. a CCW is a Concealed Carry Weapon, or a gun designed for civilian carry, instead of a duty gun, range gun, competition gun, hunting gun, etc. a CCW (the gun) would be something like a S&W J Frame or a Ruger LCP or a Springfield XDs.
secondly, the MN law states that they have 30 days to either issue you a permit or explain why they are denying you such permit. it is not a license, it's a permit
I'm not trying to stir the pot (but I probably will anyway just by posting this), but this is a great example of a point that I've made before regarding legal differences and why the correct terminology and definitions matter so much.
The difference between CCW and PTC is a legal one; and the legality is the same reason why we need to use the correct terminology for "magazine" and "clip". If you're talking about a magazine, which is what it technically and legally is, don't call it a clip - and vice-versa is true as well. Now does it matter if you're just sitting around the bonfire and someone says "clip" for "magazine"? Well, it depends on how you look at it. In one way, no, it doesn't matter, but in another way, yes, it does matter. It matters because many people will parrot incorrect information as "fact", which causes problems because if enough people say it, if enough people see it, if enough people hear it, especially from multiple sources, then it MUST be true..... right????????
Wrong.
Repeating incorrect information does not make it correct any more than cancerous cells replicating produces healthy cells.
Take for example the most famous of all the infamous "assault rifle", for which we spend countless hours trying to defend and explain what an assault rifle is and isn't. Now, if everyone was on the same page, we wouldn't have that problem, especially when some other people are trying to ban them. Sadly, most people, aren't educated in many things, like for example firearms and computers, but unlike computers, firearms are a constitutional right and another topic of which most people aren't educated either. No one can know it all or be educated in everything or even most things, so in that regard, we'll all the same, but for those thing which are the very basis of our rights as US citizens, we need to be educated. Calling something it's not and being incorrect about what it is does not serve anyone except those who are against it and use the misinformation to their own advantage. Education and awareness are the ounce of prevention against a pound of ignorance and stupidity.
