I just wanted to make a quick note about the success of the MN3GunGroup.
We were told from the start that the idea a group of local shooters had to get this "group" started, would never work. I had to admit that I have never seen anything like it anywhere else. Now to see our little group getting close to 80 shooters coming to the matches several times a year is really an accomplishment. The original idea was started by a small group, but it seems that a lot of the more seasoned competitors have also taken ownership of our group and volunteer to help with setup, stage design, RO duties, tear down, and everyone works very hard at the reset part of the match. I am both impressed and humbled by the people we have in Minnesota that come to these matches. Who would have thought!!
As we all know, no one wins a new truck when they win one of these matches. And yet we wouldn't be shooting in a "competition" if we weren't just a little competative. I will freely admit that I want to win as bad as anyone else. But what really pleases me is the quality of competition that we are seeing at these local matches. I am finding it harder and harder to keep up with any sort of higher placing, and yet I know that my skills have gotten much better in the last year. It is just that everyone else is also getting better. The idea to have stages that offer a shooting challenge that will push the envelope of the shooters is a sound one. The challenges we face at our local matches are as hard as any you will find anywhere in the country at a major match. These matches are preparing all of us to be able to compete at a high level no matter what match we decide to show up for. I like that.
