Paint with broad strokes much? Let's take these one by one and straighten this out like adults.
LePetomane wrote:If the medical community were the ones advocating for legalization I would be a little more receptive.
Do you know who prescribes cannabis in the 17 states where doctors can prescribe cannabis? Doctors, that's who, i.e. "the medical community".
Whole states full of doctors.
Do you suppose it's because they're in cahoots with the "potheads and hippies" in a grand conspiracy to piss you off, or because they believe it's what is best for their patients?
LePetomane wrote:The other issue is who will determine what it is used for[?]
How about physicians? You know, the folks who currently, as ever, prescribe treatments for their patients. I'm curious as to who else you imagine ought to be making such decisions. You?
You liberals are awfully quick to insist that your personal values guide the course of other people's private affairs, but consider how you would feel if a stranger (like you are to cannabis-using patients) injected himself into your abortion decision. Wouldn't be too thrilled, I bet.
It is unfortunate that with two major medical facilities in this state that people still resort to the use of illegal substances for alleviation of pain.
Read and consider the following carefully:
1. People still, as ever, "resort" to whatever medicine they need to treat their ailments. The legislation providing for medical use of cannabis—which you brought up, and which you inform us is secretly intended to provide for recreational use, despite the language of the bills (again: are the Senate and "potheads and hippies" in cahoots to piss you off?)—aim to make that possible.
2. Although there are only "two major medical facilities" in MN, what that has to do with the medical use of cannabis I can't figure out. Also, are you sure about that figure?
LePetomane wrote:I feel there is a difference between the pot smokers and alcohol consumers as not all people who consume alcohol do so to get intoxicated whereas all who smoke pot do it for the buzz.
Says LePetomane, but others disagree. Millions of others. You don't know them any more than they know you.
If other persons' private decisions don't infringe upon your rights, then maybe you should back off and mind your own business, just as they don't tag along to your visits with your doctor and insist that you clear all decisions with them.
LePetomane wrote:What I find ironic is the that the pro marijuana people I know are the most vehement anti cigarette folks that I know. . .That tells me that getting high is their top priority.
LePetomane, who advocates for the right carry concealed pistols in public, is the most vehement anti-carrying of
Zweihänders in public person I know. That tells me that he doesn't really care about self defense; he just wants to get a gun into the Capitol to shoot a legislator.
See a pattern?
ETA: BTW: So, you'd find their argument more compelling if they also touted the medicinal value of...smoking tobacco? Please explain.
LePetomane wrote:For your information I have been living with a chronic intermittent painful GI condition since my teen years and have done just fine without pot or other addictive substances.
Good for you. It's possible, however, that several of the ~7 billion other people on the planet have different needs than you that are unique to their individual situations.
Again, refer to the above:
If other persons' private decisions don't infringe upon your rights, then maybe you should back off and mind your own business.I know several people suffering chronic pain who are sick of opioids, and had to move to other states to get the medicine they need. They liked where they were living and it's a shame that their treatment was illegal there. The stress of moving wasn't high on their list of priorities given their health problems. So, to say that they moved across the country "just to get high" is remarkably stupid.
