Mnglocker - I won't be able to make it to the Gopher unfortunately, that Sat is booked already.

Sigs are in many ways my favorites, and I just love the Equinox, and with 10-round mags it's back on my list - but does anyone know if the 10-rounders sit flush or stick out at the bottom a little? I'm probably going to keep an eye out for a used Equinox or Elite which would match my 226 if the larger mags sit flush.

Thanks again everyone. :)

I had no idea there actually was a 10 rounder for the Sig P220. So I did a little sniffin around, and I'm pretty sure that it will not sit flush with the bottom of the grip. It's a single stack after all...

One other factor. If you just love one poly gun but it its too rough. You can smooth a polymer frame with common methods. Also racquet grip tape will do the same less permanently.

David Slam wrote:Having shot both of them, I'd recommend the FNP .45 over the XD. Each to his or her own, of course, but I found the trigger to be much nicer, I liked the exposed hammer, and it's got the same steel magazines. You might want to try one of those out. If you like Glocks, the 21SF is my all-around favorite gun right now.

Of course, I'm a huge fan of SIGs when it comes to metal-framed guns, but their mag capacity is less than what you've specified.

I have the FNP. It's a good gun, but remember, she doesn't want plastic. Oh yeah, she's right about the roughness of the grip. When I carry that one at work and my t-shirt rides up, ouch!

I didn't think to look at the EAAs, though I've liked their looks. I've heard a few different places that .45 is the one caliber that CZ can't get right, and to avoid it, so I hadn't included it on my list, especially since I'm not aware of anyplace I could rent or try one prior to buying. Anyone have different experience with them?

I had a Springfield Armory P-9 in .45 acp 5 or 6 years ago.
This was a Tangfolio made gun, a CZ copy just what you are talking about.
It was a very comfortable and accurate pistol, with a 10 round magazine and a very good trigger.
Unfortunately it was very unreliable, and I eventually lost confidence in it and traded it off.
It was very sensitive to overall bullet length, so if you only wanted to shoot hollowpoints, maybe it would be ok.
My opinion is that they squeezed the caliber into too small of of a frame , everyone else puts the .45 on a slightly larger frame.
This was my experience, I had this gun when I started IDPA a few years back so some of you guys might remember the struggles I had with that gun.
It felt great in my hand and pointed very well, if you don't want a larger frame and you want steel, maybe you should consider .40?

Well, I ran into an unbelievable deal on a used XD in great shape and couldn't pass it up. So I think my high-cap .45 search is over, and I can just start saving for something to satisfy my desire for "pretty" like a Sig 220 Elite to match my 226, and/or a nice 1911. :)

Thanks again for all the help!

remember, you can mod those grips very easy if you feel its too rough on your hands. XD45's are great guns.

Everyone seems to like the XD's. For me they point better than a Glock, and I prefer the trigger too.
Should be a good choice, I haven't heard of anyone having problems with them.

I agree XD's are solid shooters. If its a question about how the grip treats your hand, my recommendation would be to go out and pick up the Hogue slide-over grip sleeve. For about $10 it turned my Glock 19 and 21 into the most comfortable grips ever. Also has slight bulges in the right places and makes the gun more stabile in your/my hand. Before that I wasn't a huge fan of how the polymer grips felt although they are functional.

Takes a little work, but the sleeve will fit over the double stack grip, even a new-generation Glock with the finger grooves will allow it to slide into place.

Dear Victoria: I have an EAA 45 in the Wonderfinish, and they are indeed a 10+1 45. In addition, they are DA/SA, so you can carry with the hammer down and the safety off, and still rock and roll when you pull the trigger. The ergonomics of the pistol are great. and if you want to spend the money $125 will get the gun Magnaported, which helps with hot loads.

The EAA is very strong and still ptretty cheap, and the Gunstop will probably sell you one for $409 NIB. (The 45's and 10mm's used to be $349, which was an obscene steal, particularly for the 10mm).

In addition to being the resident maniac as far as gun caliber is concerned, I am also the resident maniac as far as handloading is concerned, and I worked my EAA 45 all the way up to 45 Super velocities with extra heavy springs and buffers, and I can get a 185 grain XTP bullet to come out of the 4.4" EAA barrel at 1260 FPS    for 650 ft-lbs per shot. Ballistically, this makes the gun a real, live 10 + 1 41 Magnum semi-automatic, which makes it a truly formidable weapon. As far as bang for the buck with 11 shot capacity, nothing is lower priced than the EAA.

Sorry you can't make it to the Gopher.
