I'm sorry to "drift" the thread back to it's original intent, since everyone is having a nice love-in here, but for something like ten years in a row I got my permit to purchase from the Champlin PD, and in every case it arrived via mail the very next day after I dropped off my application, or on the second day if I dropped it off later in the day. I'm thinking if one fairly small department can do it that quickly, others can too, unless of course they are just politically un-motivated. Is there anything about the background check process that would make it more difficult or time-consuming for one department over another?

The Sheriff in my county does the next day thing too. I think the ones that drag their feet just don't see it as any kind of priority. They probably save up the apps and give them to one of the night shift Dispatchers to run the checks when they get bored.

Gentlemen why all the hostility here?

Tutmos simply pointed out how people use different wording. It was a good point, And Widge told the guy that he wears panties and has them in a bunch. So he suggested decaf. It was in the context of the OP. Kind of like how concealed carry starts an argument. Just words folks. Tutmos do you know what Widge does for a living?

I was going to ask Widge how many Red Bulls he had today but everyone thinks I'm a prick anyway.

The "I told you so thread" was 11 pages because we all drift, argue, and BS over opinions not because some one is a school girl.  :?: :!:   ;) :) :D :P

The Chief said what they do takes 15 minutes. He says they wait to hear back from the "Department of Human Services" (or some such state agency) and that they take 10-14 days to reply.

Well St Paul just ok'd a friend in four days including mail and he had a couple of things on his record that might have been reason enough to say we have reason to delay but they cleared him.

When I got my permit to carry it came back really quick, less than a week if I remember, but when I moved and submitted for the change of address, it took, no joke, 3-4 weeks for them to call me to say that the check had come back and that I could stop back in a couple weeks to get my card.

Really, it depends mostly on how lazy your sheriff is, our sheriff is so lazy he couldn't find a rapist if he caught him in the act.

PTC is different thing to a Permit to Purchase.

But isn't the background check almost identical?

I may be mistaken, but I didn't read that post as having anything to do with PTP. It sounced like original PTC vs updated PTC due to address change.

First, did you get a receipt?

Then:

Print off a copy of MN Statute 624.7131, stop in, ask them where your PTP is, and hand them the copy of 624.7131.

After all this bitch slapping, a phrase floats to the surface of my mind that has some comic relief:

"YO!!! Don't get your panties in a widge, dude!!"

As far as this whole business of confronting the people in the agencies that issue permits, I just can't see any upside to it. You walk in, jam somebody up, and after you leave there is the sour taste of "another ******* gun owner" in somebody's mouth. In the long run, that not good for our image, even though the Chief may be lazy, understaffed, misinformed, or perhaps even thumbing his nose at the letter of the law. Case in point: That incorrigible, grumpy old curmudgeon named HammAR went in to St. Paul to get his permit, and had the originals and the copies, and actually behaved himself and was courteous,    and got his permit in 5 days.

In addition, I think we'll have a lot more serious things to piss and moan about after January 20th, and with Obama bin Laden running the show, some of these law enforcement people may see which way the wind is blowing and decide it's time for some "payback" for the loudmouth gun owners who have harrassed them. In addition, for those PC's that you don't like, donate some money to a better candidate, and run the sumbitch out of office. It worked fine in Washington County.

Nope, but if I had to guess I'd say it's something he has a pretty big chip on his shoulder about, based on his hostile responses.
