Real? Staged? Practical joke? Tree was already rotten?

Tree was already 7/8 of the way shot through? (there were a lot of holes in that target backer and a fair number in the targets attached to it when it was picked up off the ground at the end of the video)

I vote for staged. Too much of a coincidence for me.

I ''sawed'' off a piece of 1x about 5inches wide in less than fifteen minutes by myself with a .22 so I believe it :D

it was like four or five years ago so it was still ok back then to have fun?

Actually, on one of the upper floors of the Smithsonian in a area dedicated to the Civil War, there is a pretty big oak stump in a case over in the corner. It's a good 18" plus in diameter, and the top looks like it was sort of gnawed off by beavers. In actuality, this tree was from the battle of Gettysburg, and the sheer volume of massed fire cut it down during the battle. Kind of spooky to realize how FULL the air was of flying 69 caliber Minie balls to do this to a big oak tree, especially considering no one was deliberately trying to hit the tree.

That tree was already nearly dead, and hollow and had been hit before, that last shot just finished it off.

Yep. I'll write it off as funny coincident. Looks like that tree caught a lot of bullets before it got the finishing shot.

How do you know, was that back when you were in the service?

I'll go with Rodentman. Stupidity on display.

My tree I use for my steel target finally fell over just this week. The wind took it down this week and it fell into the far Hill. It's about 45 yards from the house I'd say. I bet there are over 2000 rounds though it.

I can see this happening, and I doubt it was staged, but it was most likely coincidental. I have in the past taken a small tree down with less than 20 rounds from a 30.06! That was with 180 gr bullets. I also have a 500 S&W, and have been shooting 350 gr bullets with that. If the tree had enough rounds go through it, it wouldn't take much to take it down, and one 350 gr bullet with enough energy could easily have taken it down.

One shot, almost certainly not. But over time bullets can definitely chew through a tree. My dad used to sight in his 30-30 deer rifle with a target hung on a wood fence post on our back 40 when I was little. Over the years the post got pretty well swiss cheesed near where the target bullseye hung and finally broke off. It was about 5-6" around.
